Well my buddy traded an old 1648 lowe aluminum wide bottom bottom for my atv recently. The boat is an 1986 and he didnt have the title because its been sitting for so long and he acquired it a while ago. He lives in GA and didnt have it registered because he lived on a private lake. I live in FL and I want to register it, but need his registration since he doesnt have a title, only he never registered it. WHAT DO I DO????

You friend is going to have to get it registered in GA so he has a paper trail, if he can. Otherwise you may have traded your ATV for a big paperweight.

It can never be said enough, no title and/or old registration so I can get it legally registered, no deal. I have walked away from potential purchases because there was no paperwork. I made that mistake one time and never again.

I dont know what the law is in fl.. But it can be done with lots of money, here in nc u have to get it bonded 300 or so ,then u have to go to dmv and get a vin number assigned to it ..Then you have to have a inspector come out after u stamp the number on the trailer in three spot toungue,axle,fender...This is for the trailer boats im not sure about ????

Well Im not stressed, because I live on a private lake and have a creek on some property I own. Just would like to register it. Its a 1986, and I dont even know if it ever had a title. If I get HIN check and prove its not stolen, can I get it registered??

Ask the state.

Most states require you to register a boat, even if it is only used on a "private" pond or lake; because in most states, the water belongs to the state.

It is worth repeating, check Florida regulations. Here you must register if you use any type of motor even on private ponds. There are no private streams. No motor, use anywhere without a title or registration.

Don't know about where you're at, but if I remember correctly, here in MN if an vehicle registration has not been renewed in 8 years or more it falls out of the system and it is considered abandoned by the state and anyone may claim ownership and obtain a title with a "statement of facts". I believe this applies to boats too. Here is a link to some info from Minnesota's DPS website: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/forms-documents/Documents/NoRecordofOwnership-JusttheFacts.pdf
