Gents,
I'm struggling with an aging I/O combo that is now just plain tired. I'd love to get a new boat but my budget just won't allow it and the 5k I could drop on another used boat would probably just have me buying someone else's problems.
My current set up is a 1984 Wellcraft 180 Elite with an OMC 3.8/800 Stringer combo. In my research it looks like it'd cost me almost as much as new Volvo I/O just to rebuild the stringer. My question is this:
I need to do something, as it stands my old OMC setup is more work than fun and becoming more of a money pit than a boat normally is.
Any advise is appreciated.

- Could I drop in something like a Volvo 4.3GL with an SX outdrive?
- Would it be a major PITA?
- Is the the Volvo my best option?
