Re: time to winterize how to.

I am a new boat owner so all of this info about winterizing is very new to me. I purchased an 06' Tahoe with a 4.3L I/O Mercruiser motor. I plan on winterizing it really soon, but I'm worried b/c I just looked at the weather and it is supposed to get down to 31 degrees tonight and then the low is 52 for the next week or so. I live in East Texas and the weather changed a lot this past Wednesday when a cold front came in and dropped the temperature about 20 degrees in less than an hour. I guess my question is........will my boat be okay tonight when the temp is supposed to get down to 31 or should I worry?

One thing that I don't often see on winterizing lists is safekeeping of removable electronics (e.g. - fishfinders). I've seen many LCD fishfinder screens go bad because they were left out in severe cold weather. It is easy to forget about them when you put the boat away under cover for winter.

I read the link above great info. i also have the same question about the outboard motors, do you want to unplug the fuel tank and alllow it to run out of gas are is it better to put in something like seafoam. i alway unplug the fuel line after each use but never run it out of fuel. 70hp 2 stroke

Seafoam will do the sme thing that Stabil does. I think seafoam is the best of the best and use it on everything that burns gas.

I found the easiest method was to build a garage and keep it heated all winter but then again I fish all winter so its nice to come home from a 20 degree day of fishing and back into a heated garage. Good thing my wife has a good job. LOL

never run a 2 stroke out of fuel sice your lubrication is mixed with the fuel it will result in a run dry conition (no oil) and could cause engine failure or premature wear

From racing two cycle bikes, long ago. The idea was that you shut down fuel and let it run out of fuel. " reason being that," you burn off the fuel in the float bowl and cylinders, evaperation of gas is pretty quick and leaves a coating of oil and NOT! "oil, gas shelack". in carb and cylinders. BUT I strongly warn, that you fog engine! Mostly, I will open lower end and look for milky fluid. Never! found any. if I did ,I would just drain and fix when I could. BEST BET!! Pull plugs and spray wd40 in cyliders, open lower end drain and look for white foam. .02
