. The body shop supervisor admited there were real alignment problems (seams, etc.) in our meeting today and then said matching fiberglass panels evenly was extremely hard and it was the best they could do. I actualy agree with his assesment of his shop's limitations.

ok.......bubbs.......im at a loss here.. if a job is out of the scope of my shop.....i dont take the job. that simple.....and i recommend a shop that can.....the customer walks away knowing that i cant do the job with the rates im charging.....and he has to go somewhere that charges triple.....he is happy i told the truth !

they screwed it up right off the bat with not polying off the interior.... i just dont get it......did they bite off more than they could chew?
if so....
why werent they up front right off the bat? and why isnt the owner of the dealership standing up for HIS business???? the ramifications of the loss of business from the insurance company in the future could be staggering !

something is really messed up here....

have you talked to the owner of the dealership?

Whether or not they were capable of properly doing to the body work has nothing to do with the fact that they didn't tape off your interior and left the dang thing out in the rain.

I've read both of these threads and the thought of what you are dealing with makes me feel sick. I am very particular about my vehicles and my toys.. Granted I don't have such a valuable car, but I would be livid if a shop did work that poor on my 6 year old daily driver with 9x,xxx miles. I hope this all works out in the end and wish you the best of luck.

I'm gussing here but I think the realization that his shop admited they were at their limit was an eye opener. Just as a side note, the GM called today over lunch and said he like to have me stop in and talk to him so I'm certain they are going to try and work something out. Will just have to wait and see. Honestly, I'll be glad to get it to a shop that can take care of it and just get my car back at this point.

here comes the pitch......at least they are trying to works something out.

as far as an eye opener for the dealership....can you imagine being in his shoes?

get this.....a car comes in to be fixed.....it is a car made from composite materials......the industry is going in this direction due to the fact that we need better fuel milage....yadda yadda......but the point being in all likely hood....this will be standard material in just a few years.... and his company cant fix them !!!!

Bubba, I feel your pain, and also having been part of a family owned GM dealership, I can feel the pain of the GM as well. If the dealership is worth anything, and I imagine they are since that is where you chose to purchase the vehicle, you talk with the GM will probably go far to extend good will to you over this unfortunate learning experience for all involved. I hope all goes well for you and you get recompenced for your frustration.

Either you can fix the job... or you can't plain and simple. Shame on you for being a factory dealer and can't handle ANYTHING on your line that needs done, anything! You should be able to completely rebuild the car as it left the factory if needed!

IF your shop can't handle the repair yourself, you better have one in your arsenal that can do it.

The dealer is the frickin dealer... suppose to be the best of the best. Like it left the factory!! ORIGINAL!! Period!. Pay more from them but you know it is PERFECT...DONE!!

It's YOUR cars. You should be able to do anything and everything to get them back to factory, and if aftermarket parts are inferior, why the He!! are you using them, use damn factory OEM panels and parts.

EDIT

Ok

Bubba, we all feel your pain. Many of us have been in similar circumstances, albeit not as bad. I recall back when I had a fairly rare Peugeot 604 and the heater control failed. Chrysler had just acquired Peugeot and I was by the dealer they could repair it. I took it in for the estimated 2 hour repair. Two day later it wasn't ready so I went in, only to find every component of the dash neatly laid out on a sheet on the shop floor. The service manager quickly apologized and admitted they were in over their head and assured it would be repaired and reassembled correctly, and offered me a loaner until it was done. And it was....the following week. They charged me for the part and 2 hours labor. If your dealer is worth his salt, he will make it right, even if that means farming it out to a more capable shop. Hang in there big guy!

I think Eric summed it up quite well. I have owned two service businesses. There were some things I couldn't do or didn't want to do at any price. I would give referrals for dealers who could do the work. Some times we would screw up a job. There has been more than one time that I have redone a job completely at my own expense because of that. It is reprehensible that a DEALER would pull a stunt like that!

Re: Time to cut my loses?

Well I have been watching and reading , I have also been in this spot, I bought a new caddy some years ago and while sitting in the drive way it took a good bit of damage due to a tree falling on it during a storm. It took out the roof and hood and a fender and most of the glass. So it was put in the agents recommended shop and after 6 weeks I got the call that it was fixed and when I arrived to find it wasn't even close to being finished. I called my agent to talk it over and said ok its not expectable and I wont except it back until it is fixed and I will need a rental car until it is. In my state a owner dose not have to except it back until it is to his satisfaction and my police states a rental is provided until it is fixed. and I told him I expected a caddy. He provided one and I enjoyed the free car until it was settled 8 weeks later, they ended up totaling it out and replacing it. The point is this , let them take all the time they want while their paying for you a rental car or have the dealership provide one, those extra charges will get them off their ***** to get things done and you don't have the stress while waiting. 200.00 a day motivates people. Right now no one but you is under stress. I would spread it around. Just a thought.

This is a GM dealer. Maybe you can get them to provide you with a Cadillac CTS-V. It may not be a convertible, but it is Winter and that car will keep up with traffic.

Looks to me you Have 2 problems. 1) withe the car dealership as they were not equiped to fix the car. 2) With the insurance company for not having a qualified shop to work on it. Just my 2c worth.
