"GM"....the dealership employee.....not the "GM" who built the car...;)

Too many "GMs"

Happily, Granatelli Motorsports is not involved in some way or we'd really lose track.:D

after reading all about bubbas plight with this one......i think i need a GM....(Grand Marnier)

Another solution. Take the car now and put some really quiet mufflers on it. Replace the hood w a stock one w a hole if needed for the induction, or covered w a ugly sheetmetal scoop. Then put some old aluminum slots on it and paint it primer gray w rattlecans. Add a smoke machine in the trunk squirting out under the rear, tear some holes in the top and slap a bunch of Jeggs etc. stickers on the rear and go lookin for trouble w your new semi sleeper!!:D some mud tires on the back would be great on the gravel roads, but the DOT might not like you destroying their roads!!

Bubba,

I have read most of both of your treads on this. I to am super picky, almost anal, about my vehicles. So i know what you are going thru. But..... I also know and accept that the auto body business is what it is because the consumers made it that way. The average customer could care less if the repair is perfect, they just want it back quickly, don't want it to cost them anything out of pocket and want to drive a nice loaner while its there.

Most folks don't even wash their car very often, much less wax it. Then there is you who doesn't even drive it in the rain. I'm not knocking you here. You have to understand we are 1% of the population. I have a Z06 corvette that has had more than one thing that would be covered under warranty go wrong with it. I choose to fix it myself because i know better that to expect a "stealership" to treat it well.

My best friend from high-school runs a very large auto group dealership network and paint/body work is a large part of their business. They have state of the art equipment, climate controlled shop, downdraft heated paint booths, on and on. There are a few people there that are really good at their jobs... I have never seen a complete job come out of there that i thought was good enough for a high end or well cared for car.

I, most of the time, do all my own paint and body work. My dad taught me years ago. I know lots of gear-head buddies that are in the business. Knowing all about this leads me to make the following statement... You will almost never get the type of job that it would take to please you from a "Big" shop. Too many variables.

Take your car to a small shop where only one or two people, to whom you will actually pay money to, are doing the work. If it is not 5-7k to do a dis-assembly, sand to primer, and complete repaint you should not expect good results. If the collision work was as bad as the paint work you are unhappy with, you can expect to pay more $$.

Just my .02, sorry to be a kill joy! :)

PS. I can tell you good ways to find small shops in your area if you don't know any.

Leaving this vehicle at the same repair shop is not a choice I would entertain. The notion that any dealership is somehow better or even more qualified than another is the joke of the week. Just because they have a sign out front that says GM, means nothing, and by your own experience, you can now see, why this is true.
My story is no different regarding the repair work I allowed them to try to complete on my Caddy. And after way too much time inspecting pathetic attempts at bodywork, I just took my vehicle back. You cant expect anything to change when they lack the basic skills to repair your vehicle back to factory specs. What most American auto dealerships pass off as acceptable I now call the "good enough" factor. Seems most all of them operate under this new standard. Nothing like aiming low, to begin with, they seem to achieve this more times than not. And it isn't just body work, it's everything!!
Don't leave it your vehicle there, unless you want it ruined even more than it has been.

To a point of hiring a lawyer, he will only be as good as he can be, and if that is as good or worse than the guy who did your repairs, you are in for a long run my friend. Good Luck, I got hosed when I bought my house and now my cherrywood floor boards are popping up after a sub-par repair job. In hindsight I should have done the repairs myself, even if it took me 6months I would have been better off doing it myself.
