Hello, my first post, and my first tilt/trim problem. I have a 92 evinrude v4 90hp, trim goes up, wont come down, and no noise from the solenoid, no sound at all when I press the trim down. Any thoughts? Thanks.
romontano,
I have the same motor as you. I just experienced an intermittent trim down problem that turned out to be the relay. There is a junction box on the back of the engine (cover off). Trace you wiring from the switch on the side of the engine to help locate it. Inside there are two black square relay modules that plug into the wiring harness. Try swapping them side to side and see if your problem follows. I am still not sure what one is the down relay, but when I swapped side to side I then had intermittent up trim/tilt. I replaced them both as I figured that the must be about the same age and the motor is new to me. They were $19 each at the boat shop.
Thankyou, as I said this is my first go at a boat forum and I am so impressed with the threads Ive read and peoples willingness to help out. Ill check the relays, and hopefully report back with good news. I appreciate the quick response...
Yep,definitley a relay. I had the same problem. Switched them around & worked sometimes & sometimes didn't. Took a chance & replaced both relays. Problem solved. Bought them from Iboats & were cheaper than I could find anywhere.
