#9 called the Head assy. has an o-ring that goes bad and leaks.
The head assy. can't be bought unless you get real lucky.
Or you find someone who has a tilt cyl. laying around,
I might have one if needed??

There is no o-ring where the rod comes through the cap. Do this....there is a plastic/rubber cap that sits on top of the cylinder covering the top....it is like a dust cover....it can be pryed up away from the top.....with this cover lifted up, clean up the oil real good, then recheck to make sure fluid is actually coming out around the shaft. What might be happening is oil is leaking from around where the cap screws into the cylinder and is coming up through the dust cover making it look like the shaft is leaking. There are only 2 o-rings that can be replaced.....one on the piston and one on the cap where it screws into the body. I can't tell by looking at your pic in first post if there is a dust cover on your cylinder or not. If it is really leaking fluid around the shaft you may have to replace the tilt cylinder.....as far as I know that seal is not serviceable. Franz marine could steer you in the right direction if that is the case.
This is where it is leaking from. I dont belive there is a dust cover on it. Looks to be a metal top where the cylinder wrench goes in.

Yeah, no dust cover...it looks like something is wrong with that cap....it should have a lip that goes around the shaft like the one in this pic.....maybe it got over-extended at some point and was damaged?

No idea what happened to it. Can I buy a different trim and tilt or is it specific to a motor? Is there a universal trim tilt system? I looked for the caps and they are nowhere to be found for sale.

Looks like you need a new tilt cylinder.....you can't find parts for these, believe me I have looked. Ended up buying a rebuilt one from Franz marine.....Jerryjerry usually gets on here real early in the morning, maybe he can hook you up with one he has laying around.....they are all the same....just put new o-rings in it and good to go.

So I cant just use any cylinder I take it. It has to be made for this engine?

I meant that they are all the same for Chrysler and Force, made by Prestolite....for all models pretty much....except for the later engines made by Mercury. I think they started using Mercury T&T on the Mercury/Force engines.....

Thank you so much for your patience. I am still learning about all this. I want to get my boat out on the water but don't feel comfortable till most if not all of it is in working order.

There is no o-ring for the middle of the cap on the tilt cylinder, it is a friction type seal that cannot be replaced....it looks like yours got knocked off somehow.....however the trim cylinder uses an o-ring where the shaft comes out of it. Go figure.....
Gotta love the sense that makes hahaha. So find a almost non existent replacment part or a used cylinder that is in working condition. I will wait to hear from @jerryjerry05

No problem at all....I highly recommend getting a model specific factory service manual for your engine....most marine repair shops will not even look at an old Chrysler or Force so you have to be able to do most repairs yourself. Having a good manual and access to a forum like this you should have no problem. If Jerry can't find an old tilt cylinder laying around let me know.....that one in the pic I showed you earlier is my old one....replaced by the rebuilt one I bought.....the cylinder body is damaged, but the head with shaft and piston is in good shape.....it would fit into your cylinder body just fine....just put new o-rings in it and you are good to go.

Topgun is correct. The "O" ring is on the outer threaded portion of the cap. Not where the rod comes through. You might be able to get the rod seal at a shop that does hydraulic cylinder repairs. I've been able to source several of these types of seals at a local hydraulic cylinder repair shop.

Thank you I appreciate it. Will wait to see what Jerry says and if not we shall try your solution.
