Can anyone tell me how to set the throttle cables, specifically the reverse throttle? I have a 1988 115HP in-line 6.
When the reverse is at full throttle the throttle valve in the carb only opens about 25% to 30%. Is that where it should be? I see the adjuster screw at the engine end, looks easy to set but not sure where it should be.

Not sure on the 88 really, but for mine, you set the barrel for the throttle cable where it puts SLIGHT pressure of the distributor on the idle stop. At this point I believe it does what you describe, definitely doesn't open the carbs too much, unless you're wanting to do 20mph backwards? :)

There are no adjustments for reverse throttle. Do not change link and synch settings.
