Here is a link to a related speedometer question. But first a comment on the theory and operation of the boat speedometer.
"the speedo works as a "bourdon tube" type instrument
I/E a coiled tube usually of brass.
as pressure of any kind is applied it tries to "straighten"
the bottom of the tube is hooked to a chain
and pulls on usually a chain
that is hooked to a gear ..than the gear rotates...
that gear is moving the "pointer" of the instrument that is is attached to.
"hence" the pressure applied to the "bourden tube " reflects ......what ever it is calibrated to ..speed , and or pressure...
In a short :::::
the water pressure that the "pitot tube see's "
by being placed in water usually on the transom, just barely in the water at speed .
that pressure is then transfered to the speedometer by the usually small plastic hose.
the pitot tube is not the hose ..
It is the device that is in the water , airstream if you are in a airplane.
Now just how was that watch made?? or did you just ask for the time ???
lol "
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=012626#000005
RE: Powercat udate, Boat Restoration; Mark 78 backfiring, Mercury outboard...troubles.
Hey Baylor, I think you either need a little more time or a little more JD. Was that number 7, or Black Label? Remember JD and JB do not mix.
Dunaruna: Did the email you sent bounce. Congrats of the cricket sitcho.
