You are right about the cost. No doupt it will work. I use to use the stuff all the time years ago but then epoxy was 5x the poly now its just 2x. To me its worth the cost not to have to breath those fumes. Epoxy also has a wide temp range to work with and sticks like no other. Just make sure shes clean, dry and roughed a 36 tooth everywhere and it will do alright. Is helps to hit it with accatone a coupel times, let it dry just a little b4 glassing a area. It will turn the old surface back slightly gummy for a few minutes to make a sort of chemical bond. Remember you are only getting a mechanical bond to where they got a chemical bond when they built the boat. Good luck and didn't mean anything over the epoxy ?? Just didn't know if you knew how good the stuff is and the advantages of it. I dont get to follow the boards all the time and I may of missed or forgot a earlier post on choice of matterials. Sorry

Don't sweat it Hawkeye1, I knew your intent. I racked my tired used up brain and asked everyone I could find about the whole epoxy vs Polyester gig. It seemed that the overwhelming response was that epoxy kicked butt, but polyester would get the job done. Works for me. You are right about the smell though. When I was at the boat restoration place yesterday, it was fairly smelly. I asked them if they wore respirators when they worked with the stuff, they said no. I of course will be outside and wearing a respirator.
