Meant to share this with everyone but kept forgetting.....
Bayliner had through bolted on a lip around the opening of the ski locker for the ski locker cover to rest on. After 24 years, the rear most bolts pulled through the deck on both sides and I decided to replace the entire lip (it was 5/8 ply) with 1x4. So rather than use the same old stainless bolts and lock nuts that Bayliner used, I used construction adhesive and clamped the 1x4 to the under side of the deck while it set up. Seemed solid. Thought I was doing the right thing and it should last forever. Right?
After just two trips with the boat, the construction adhesive came off and the whole ski locker cover fell in.
Turns out Bayliner had gel coated the under side of the deck in the ski locker/bilge. The construction adhesive came clean off the gel coat, and stuck 100% to the pressure treated 1x4.
The reason I remembered to share this tid bit of info is because right now I am going out to the boat to bolt on the 1x4. No construction adhesive this time!
