Thermostat location question.

My 5.0 Mercruiser I/0 has the thermostat located in the thermostat housing instead of in the engine block. Is this due to the "open loop" cooling aspect regarding coolant flow, or for some other reason? Thanks

Don't know your serial number but most all thermostats are located in the thermostat housing, open or closed cooling.

All thermostats are located in the thermostat housing

Unlike a car, a marine motor is constant flow to the exhaust

Thanks Scott, that was what I needed. I looked at the manual coolant flow diagram in the service manual but some lines had dual flow direction arrows and I couldn't exactly follow along.
