^ that is making my head spin....... Do your boat right or don't do it at all....... It's about SAFETY and a solid boat..... You don't want to endanger yourself or others with a half*****ed job... and brnschoneck please don't give advice doing shoddy work.....maybe you don't mind sinking but others might :frusty:

. I'm leaning towards some quick and dirty sealing with peanut butter around the stringers and some exterior plywood as a new deck might ultimately be the way to go with this.

I'm going to take my previously discussed couple hundred bucks a month and set it aside. A few months from now or when my foot goes through the new deck (whichever comes first) I should have enough saved to get something made of metal...

I'm disappointed to see this, I was hoping you'd make something nice out of this boat so (A) to show the naysayers it can be done and (B) make your uncle proud he gave you the boat.

... but it's your boat and you can do whatever you want, just seems like a waste to me.

Yesterday was a bad day for motivation. It was hot and miserable. I went bank fishing for a couple hours in the lake/retention pond until a breeze started up and then I started measuring and cutting stringers...

I couldn't agree more. Last week it was nice and windy, about 65-70 degrees and I wanted nothing more than to work on this boat. Today it's in the mid 80s, not a breeze to speak of and I hate this stupid boat because its just sitting here mocking me.

The good news in that the stringers are pretty much solid except for a few pieces that were around the forward end of the fuel tank. The transom feels fairly solid as well when I hit it with a mallet on the stern. I'm leaning towards some quick and dirty sealing with peanut butter around the stringers and some exterior plywood as a new deck might ultimately be the way to go with this.

Thats great news on the stringers. That will save you a ton. I would sure them up, throw in a floor and fiberglass it. Make it safe and presentable and go boating. Keep your expenses low and put that money away for your next boat. Great idea. That is what I did on my Tahoe Q7. I was doing great til the engine started knocking. LOL... I didnt realize at the time that it was just a tuliped valve, it sounded like a bottom end knock, to me and every mechanic that listened to it. I replaced the whole thing. My old shortblock is now in my buddy's truck and going strong without any work.

Either way, if you can keep expenses down so that you can eventually sell it for something close to what you have in it, then you are in good shape. Dont cut corners on safety, make sure you check out little things like bellows etc to make sure you arent going to sink, and go have fun.

If everyone only bought "water ready" boats these I-Boats forums wouldn't exist,....

I think the most rewarding part of boating is being in something the owner brought back to life,.....

I think most of the people here buy a boat that they were told was water ready and then find out it wasn't. THen there are the crazy few like myself that buy them know ing they are a project but at some really low prices.

Considering his insights and ethics on boat restoration he may be doing well to have written it like he did.

Yes, "brnschoneck", it would be most helpful to use proper words, maybe some punctuation.

Re: There's no such thing as a free boat: My '96 Bayliner Capri 1750 Adventure

i bought my boat cheap, as a project, the ad stated needs floor. when i went to see it and saw the motor strapped to the rear cleats, i knew it needed a transom, but for the money, the motor and trailer plus i liked the hull, so it was a great deal. i did not know what i was getting into, i now know my boat, every piece, every part. glad i did it, love my boat, feel the accomplishment every time i hit the water:D i say go for it, just to warn you it may turn into madness:eek:
