Re: "THE" wedding

Well, the TV was on and my wife watched the lead-up; who's attending, what they were wearing etc etc.
Then I happened to see the official parties arriving by "car".
Now i know you blokes are king of the pick-up trucks, and you can make some pretty good cars, but the POMs have got you on the "really official car market". Those Bently's, and the RR Phantom - I mean, how good looking are they. Not the sort of thing a family man would own, but really good to watch - even the old ones look great.

Then I got involved with the wedding itself.

I have given it a lot of thought since then, and feel credit must go to where credit is due.

Those young people represent the future leaders of this world, and I came away feeling the world is in better hands than I thought.
Here are some of the people who impressed:

The Brides 23yo brother James, read the lesson "from a modern American version of the Bible", and I couldn't believe the way he delivered it. I am in my 60's and would have to say it may well be one of the best 'speeches' I have ever listened too.

Next the Bridesmaid - there was only 1, the Brides sister Pippa.
What a great dress, plain and stunning. No tattoos. No stupid hair-do. No boobs hanging out. No make-up that made her resemble some petrified animal.
Carried out her duties with grace and poise. Just dignified and stunning.
I am so fed up with the 'celebs', the Hoolwood A list, or Ophra falling off her diet B/S we get fed.
From what I have seen of Wills and Harry, now Kate and her siblings, I believe the world will be ok if they are a fair representation of future leaders.

Now for the ceremonials: How good are those old horse drawn carriages. Wouldn't a bloke just love to have a ride in one of those. The POMs can certainly pull-off a good formal ceremony. (I always wanted to be a Life Guard - and 41 yrs ago i turned L when I should have turned R. If I had made it, I would never have left!).

Who knows what a Fascinator is. Ask your wives.

Cheers
Phillip

My wife had it on, so I saw a bit. Could care less about the wedding, but those cars are beautiful. If I win the lotto, I want a Rolls Royce like the one she rode to the church in. I don't care if I have to pay extra for the optional trailer hitch or not.

My TV was on, so I couldn't miss it. I was impressed. Nobody can do a state occasion like the British.

Catherine's brother was magnificent, her sister was a study in understated elegance and Catherine's dress was about as perfect as an old man can judge.

Think the Royal family does NOTHING, SF?? You clearly aren't paying attention.

I guess its so exciting over there because nothing else interesting ever happens!
Tea and a biscuit how boring must their lives be..so a ROYAL wedding must be great..I have to admit i would rather watch that for days on end than watch our very own moon cricket speak once

Re: "THE" wedding

Watched bits and pieces of it whenever I had to walk through the living room where my wife had it on. Had to laugh when I think it was the bride arrived in a Rolls with the security detail behind in a Range Rover. Now that was a little scary to me since my brother in law owned two of those and they spent more time in the shop than being driven. Gave credence to the saying "Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas makes refrigerators too!"

After a few snide comments on my part my wife informed me that I could get to watch it all over again since she was recording it and the Amish woman who lives across the lane is coming over and they are going to watch it together. Time to retire to my gun room and spend four hours loading a few hundred rounds.

The whole Royal thing is not quite my bag.....but.....it's a bit of a nice, interesting break from modern celebrity news.
The best way to look at it is perhaps as a different form of entertainment...substantially more civil, real and certainly classier than Hanna Montana, Idol, Got Talent, Survivor, Judge Judy and Reality this and that.
I have to agree with you Phil on the etiquette shown is kinda' refreshing.
One thing I try to keep in mind is neither of these two people have necessarily asked to be put in a position of high position and have shown a lot of class (so far) with this....and hey, the kid actually has a real job as a Rescue Helicopter Pilot. Good on 'em.;)

Myself the wedding was OK. Now if my Mom was alive all of us kids would of had to stay up and watch it. We would have been made to salute the Queen out of respect for Mom and hear stories of how my mother had met her as a child when she lived there. That was my Mom.

I do hope that that the media play nice with them. What happened to Will's mom was was a tragedy.

Hi Guys:

I didn't receive an invitation so I didn't go. Then again I didn't invite them to my wedding either. Like eaglejim I think they'll manage quite well (or not) without me and mine!

Did not watch one second either. Big deal about nothing.

Troubling that a scene such as a royal wedding overshadows the news of hundreds of Americans that died because of tornadoes this week.

Re: "THE" wedding

I'm with kilowatts - why would I watch a wedding I wasn't invited to?

I do believe the Queen is the gold standard for royalty, but otherwise I have no interest.

We have bigger fish to fry on this side of the pond.
