laniganperformance.com/marine_applications.

I know that based on the oil discussions that have occured on this board this could be considered a troll of sorts, but I really don't mean for it to be that at all. (I know nothing about oil really so sorry if this question is seems obvious)

I was doing random google searches of my motor and found this site.(1987 25hp johnson). I am wondering if you guys have heard of this Militec stuff, and if you have does it do what it claims.

25 HP Johnson Outboard Engine Test

We were receiving units that had scored cylinder walls, due to oil failure. I had acquired nine 25HP Johnson outboards from the salvage yard and put together two units as identically as possible. I set the two units in a 750 gallon test tank and ran them for four hours each, overflowing the tank as I went along to provide cooling to the engines. I sprayed MILITEC mixed with regular outboard engine oil into the carburetor for lubrication of one unit, and just regular oil into the other unit ( 1 qt each ) and ran both engines without lubrication until they stopped from lack of oil. The one using MILITEC kept running until we had to shut it off and check for lubrication in the fuel tank. I started it again and it ran for another 10 to 20 minutes. It began to slow down and finally stopped. I disassembled both units. The Militec unit did in fact offer more protection than the outboard motor oil alone. The MILITEC unit was repairable, the untreated unit was beyond repair.
Yes, I have been running some trials of my own with Militec1, I am presently using it in my 150 Merc. I mixed some with some gas and oil in a spray bottle and sprayed it into the carbs to start with, now I add 2 oz per quart into the oil and mix it well before I pour it into the oil tank. I have oil injection still.

Its more of a metal conditioner than an oil additive, I feel that it may stop scorring if an oiling issue were to come along. I see no improvement in performance, but Im still using it. I have ran it all summer. Im also using it in the wifes RX/7.

I spent lots of time on the phone with Allan, (The owner of the company),(Sorry, not the owner, just a very informed rep), before actually trying it. Its an awesome gun oil and he sends lots of it to Irac for the troops free. It doesnt attract sand and dust as other oils do.

I dont recommend it to anyone, Just something Im trying.

I wouldn't recommend it either, some calls it "snake oil". Chief ;)

MILITEC contains chlorinated hydrocarbons that are very corrosive to your engine's internals. Most motor oil companies quit using chlorine-based fortified oils half a century ago.

Re: The Ultimate Lubricant : Militec????

I don't know how Militech-1 works on engines - so this may not help there.

HOWEVER - I am a precision rifle shooter, I shoot a rifle (Bolt action) in long range, up to 1000 yards.

I have used it on the bolt of my rifle and it GLIDES like never before. I receive compliment after compliment about how easy my bolt works.

When I s hoot the rapid fires, it makes things very nice to be able to work the bolt.

Militech-1 in Afghanistan has kept M16's from Jamming as it is a dry lubricant after it is wiped off......

WHat it does to an engine, I can't say...

But the product is good, I've used it on more than just rifles, doors, door jams, you name it.

It is not snake oil for sure......

The owner of the company usually sends out a free sample if you are serious about it, use it on something like a squeaky door or something.

Anyway that's my two cents, I"M sort of defending Militech 1 for what they really do, but I can't say much about outboard engine applications, on a rifle I swear by it, as do the Navy Seals (They gave it a thumbs up, the 10th Mtn Div gave it a thumbs up).......

Good stuff.

I agree with you that the Chlorinated Hydrocarbons can cause damage to metal, Products like ProLong have them and are to be avoided.

However, I was on the phone with a Rep if not the owner of the company, Russ Logan, 1-877-222-5512, and he assures me that the Product they actually use is what he called a Non-Reactive Chlorinated ester and that in the 20+ years of the products use, it has shown no corrosive trates.

Perhaps you would like to give him a call and report back as to what your findings are.

Re: The Ultimate Lubricant : Militec????

scott at work- that is the reason i started to question the validity of the tests, given that militec seems to have made its name in rifle oil rather than outboards.

Sorry if i sound dumb, but what are the differences between chlorinated hydrocarbons and chloronated ester??? ( besides the fact one has ester and the other carbons).

Well, Im no chemist, but I had it explained to me that the Non-Reactive Chlorine ester product in some way prohibits the Chlorine from being caustic to metals. Many advances have been made over the years as far as Chlorines being used in lubricants, they have found ways to keep it from being damaging. Many lubricants have it because it is unregulated and they do not have to say that it is in there.

Chlorine is actually a gas so thats how some get away with saying that there product doesnt have it in them.

Hey, give Russ a call, he is more than happy to talk your ear off.

Dont worry Tim...im sure Dunaruna mixes his popcorn up just like you do your motors...at 100 to 1.....dont all of us racers do it that way?
