The spring thing

I have an old 1958 Johnson with the 2 line pressurized gas can. I was wondering if anyone knows what the correct spring inside the connector is or where to get them or a part number? The springs I am refering to are inside the gas connector on the engine side. There is two of them.

Thank you vice admiral. I knew someone would know the answer.Allbeit it is a mighty expensive little spring 14 dollars and change plus shipping. It probably cost 15 cents back in the day.

Yeah, it seems like everyting I need is always more expensive than it used to be. But it sure is nice to get the older engines running again.
Another option is to convert to a single line system, newer tanks are a lot cheaper. The conversion will cost a little, but once done you can use the newer tanks and fuel line.

Do you have a decent hardware store in your town? You should be able to find a spring there.

If I'm not mistaken, there are two nipples on the engine side of the connection, with a hole in each. I think the springs you're refering to are inside of the connectector that goes to the quick disconnect on the end of the line from the tank? I haven't actually seen anyone take those apart to replace the springs inside. Believe it or not, to replace one of those connectors, is about as expensive as buying a tank.

I recently purchases a tool thats made to take these apart. I paid about 25 bucks or so with shipping. The seller is on ebayand I believe his username is max toyzman if i'm not mistaken. I believe he has another one for sale, i'm pretty sure. They come apart pretty easily with this tool. He also has the correct o rings for these. Those are about 2 bucks for 4. Its the best deal ive found for this situation.

I didn't know you made them. Next time ill check with you when i need something first. I will keep you in mind. I believe i asked if anyone knew where to get one a couple of months ago but noone said anything or else i missed it. Sorry

I designed that tool and have been selling them for a couple of years. Now I gotta listen to my wife reminding me that she told me to have it patented.

F-R, I don't know what your tool looks like but I've got one in my tool box the was built back in the late 50's-early 60's by OMC. Used it many times yrs ago. Makes it real easy to take those connectors apart.

messing with these old junk boats I've got I've had to invent many tools that I was so ignorant of that I didn't even know they could be purchased.

These boats aren't junk. They're classics that need TLC from collectors.

Yes, always check with F_R when you need tools. He's a veteran from the manufacturing plants and seen thousands of these classics, before they went into the hands of the public.

I'm willing to bet he submitted hundreds of good ideas and they ended up being ignored.

F_R. Yours looks a lot better designed than the one I have. I like the knock out rod you have installed on it. I used to have to use a piece of inner control wire from a control cable for a knock out. I'm not good on computers so I can't send you a pict.
