Re: The Saga Begins...... (Update)

Cost:

3 Sheets of 1/2" ply - $99
5 Gallons of Poly resin - $155
Rubber coated decking screws - $14
2 tubes of 3M5200 - $38

I have allready purchased this and but I still need to get my fiberglass cloth. I am not sure how much that will cost. Overall its not that expensive to replace the floor, just a little time consuming.

What does U of M stand for? Wouldn't happen to be the University of Maryland, would it?

Greg

Greg-
Thanks for that info. I'm going to wait until this next fall to start on it. I've worked enough on it this offseason. Those pix you posted will help me alot. It was fairly easy cutting it out eh? Great. Maybe you can help me with mine.. Lol
Ole Miss University.

Its pretty easy cutting it out. A circular saw and a 4 1/2" angle grinder will be your best friends.

Greg

Greg, How close did you cut on the sides? My floor seems very solid over there. I have one soft spot right under the captain chair and another just in front of the back seat.

I'll take a new picture tomorrow. I cut out all of the soft wood and am putting my new floor right ontop of the old one.

Greg

Re: The Saga Begins...... (Update)

I have the same boat as you and am doing the same project. Are you removing all of the wood in the back or keeping some of it? I got mine in october 2004 for $1,000 and in April 2005 I kept it in a slip. The floor was soft all of that time but I just put some wood over the carpet and it held up well for the whole season. It has been a great boat. Good Luck

I am keeping some of it. Then putting a whole new floor ontop of the existing floor. Let me know how your project goes.

Greg

Once I lay my new floor, should I cover it with fiberglass mat or fiberglass cloth? I am replacing the whole floor.

I have had 2 people tell me 2 different things.

FYI I am using poly resin.

I'll post pictures soon.

Greg

Hey Greg, So your cutting out the bad spot's and putting your new floor on top of the old floor? Then your glassing it, right? What about your ski-storage are, think that might be hard to deal with (since your putting the new on top of the old). Just asking, cuz I gotta do the same thing. When you get a chance, post more pix when you get that far.

Yes, I am putting a new floor over the old one. For my ski storage area I got a new door that is about 1" smaller all around. It should work out well. I will post pictures this afternoon. I am getting close to putting my new floor in.

Greg

Re: The Saga Begins...... (Update)

I havn't posted an update in a while so I thought that I would. The boat is comming along pretty well. I am hopeing to finish up the back bench, cooler and glassing it all in within the next week. I am then going to have Line-x spayed in.

I am a senior in high school and at the end of the school year we have a week between the last day of exams and graduation, all of the seniors go to the beach this week. That is the fist week in June so I really wanted to have it finished by then.

As you can see, I still have my work cut out for me.

greg go to the mercruiser/volvo i/o forum. i believe ther are going to recommend pulling the out drive and servicing. if you don't at least change the oil in the out drive, check for water. youalso need to make sure you don't hae any holes, or cracks in the rubber bellows. inboard.outboards, require more maint. than an outboard. for a higher school senior you are doing a fantasic job. congrats

Hi Greg - you are one determined high school kid!

I´m not qualified to comment on your structural work, but it certainly looks the business and you have done more work on your boat in a short time than some of us do in a year. Keep it up and safe boating!!

Hi "Gregmercer" looks like your doing a fine job with that Wellcraft, might be worth checking the engine bearers for rot if you already haven't apparently a common fault on this model (in the process of replacing mine
:( )
Mines a 23'Cuddy with a 5.7 DP named "Adrenalin"

picture at http://www.mybayliner.co.uk/boatmad/new.jpg

Greg,

looks great! you're much further along than I am! I hope my carpentry looks as good as that when I catch up :)

You proved an interesting point I've made with a few people.. no matter how little damage you think there is, count on a much bigger project once you start to open it up :)

Really, great work!

Jeff
