I was wondering if anyone could tell me the kind of tachometer and wiring harness i would need for a '73 chrysler 70hp 3 cylinder outboard? Could i get one at a local automotive parts store and convert a 4 cylinder one into a 3? Should i get one with warning light? As i have no overheat indicator light or any guages other that a voltometer...

Re: the right tachometer

You need a 12 pole tach available here, ebay, marine websites etc. You can make your own overheat warning light/buzzer real easily. Don't waste your time at an automotive parts store for a marine tach. Some folks like the "tiny tach", but you can find a tach and the wiring is pretty easy. Just search some of the previous threads on this board for "tach install" etc. and you'll have all the info you could possibly need. Good luck...
