Re: The Pot Poll

Just peeked at the poll results and 41% think it should remain banned. For what reason? Is anyone who agrees with me willing to jump into the frey? Not with this crowd, Dang! If you didn't want people's opinions, you shouldn't ask the question.

I'm sure they've got plenty of good reasons, and I have no problem with people who want pot to stay illegal; however, addiction is not a reason and I can't stand it when people post false information and pretend like it's a fact.

Who posted false information, you asked for a source and I gave you 3. What makes it any less credible than yours?

I think pot will never be legalized in the US. Simple reason IMO is the gov cant control it....Its to easy to grow on your own, which would mean the govnmnt wouldnt be able to get "their" tax dollars on it if it was made legal and was for sale like smokes are now.TO many people would "grow their own".... I know I would.

Im ashamed to admit that Ive driven while intoxicated and have also driven while stoned, and have been around others that have done the same and they all say, they(I) feel more unsafe when driving after some drinks then I do when I had a buzz....Not trying to make excuses for it.

That probably doesnt make much sense, but its hard to explain.

You did.

The sources you provided agree with me and everyone else that marijuana is only mildly addictive in a few people.

I think I see where you are coming from, but it is also easy to make your own beer and wine.

Personally I think that alchohol has a much greater effect on most people than weed........you dont have to spend too much time on or near a college campus at night to figure that out. Used responsibly I dont have a problem with either on (weed or liquor)

3 different studies with 3 different levels of addiction found. From mild to profound. You say it's not. I think the discussion is over as we each know where the other stands. I told you it could be debated. :D

BTW, thanks for calling me an illiterate, idiot, fool, liar.

I needed that :D

You can debate that the sky is not blue too. I'm sure if you ask enough people one guy will say it's actually green, because he's blind and has never seen the sky. Of course at the same time it will be obvious to any rational thinking person that he is wrong...

You can also grow your own tobacco. The government already allows making beer, whine, and tobacco tax free for personal use.

Right. I'm an illiterate, idiot, fool, liar, irrational, blind man. I always knew I wasn't right. Thanks for clearing that up.

Re: The Pot Poll

Why not just make it legal see what effects it has on our country. NY state had a big protest a number of years back about the right for women to go topless. It went to vote and passed (why wouldn't it). Now that its legal for women to go topless none of them do! :(
Anyone here vacation in Amsterdam?

I think it probably will be legalized to some degree in Canada in the near future. After that most people will see that the country didn't go down the toilet and won't have much of an arguement left.

I'm also curious who the 11 people are that smoke pot on a regular basis. Anyone care to share?

Drowned Rat,
I don't want to get involved because I spend too much time getting in silly arguments, and spending hours researching to back up facts or refute facts. I think it's the same for a lot of the other people who vote no on legalizibg it. The big trouble is getting access to the actual medical research studies, and not something posted on the internet by an activist group. And besides, there are other arguments against it besides the ones regarding addictiveness or whether it's actualy harmful or not. But the argument is invariably hooked back to "the studies showing it's harmful and addictive are bogus." I'm tired of going back and forth on that, and not going to waste my time anymore. I had this argument a while back, and not many people spoke up against it then either. I believe strongly that it shouldn't be legalized, and I'll never waver on that, but I'm not going to chase my a*s for hours trying to make a point thats not going to be accepted.
Good luck!

Re: The Pot Poll

Good point Kalian. That is exactly why I didn't want to post any internet links to studies, because it's just an internet link. Oh well, I gave in but I know what I know. I guess everyone just needs to figure it out for themselves. Some internet personality called Drowned Rat sure isn't going to convince anybody. :D I thought about starting a poll that asks of those people with school age or younger kids, how many support the legalization of marijuana. But I'm gonna take what's left of my a** and call it a night. ;)

I wouldn't take such a negative position on your stance, Drowned rat. You never had your arse handed to you, it's just been *** for tat, nothing acomplished on either side. Keep in mind also that the poll only reflects the views of one particular segment of our society, that being people who post on the DC at i-boats forum.

Re: The Pot Poll

I struggle with legalizing it. I voted in favor, but all of the points I made prior to the addiction war were sorta about my personal conflict. I don't see this in any way as cut and dried. I do think there is a significant amount of hypocrisy concerning pot laws and alcohol laws. Doesn't meean that legal alcohol is wrong and doesn't mean that legal pot is right.
