:welcome: to iboats Fish Laugher!

I sure hope you plan on going out on the gulf side with that open bow fishing boat things could get a bit dicey if the swells pick up. Be sure to rinse your boat, flush your motor and trailer very well after being in the brine if you want her to last.

You could get by with a 6 HP on that for trolling but if you're wanting a kicker to use as a backup motor then I would go with a 9.9 HP if you wanted to get in against the tide then it may take a while. SOme guys are able to get by with direct clamping a long shaft kicker on the transom next to the main motor without needing a bracket.

Thanks guys! I have plans to add a second, larger capacity bilge pump in case I take a wave over the bow and staying on top of weather reports is always key. I was thinking of at least a 10 - 15 hp. kicker and am hoping I can mount it on the transom next to my 90 Evinrude. I might even go larger if the right motor turned up and I had the room to mount it. In a perfect world I would like to go to twin 70's but we will see if that ever happens.... I tried to post pictures but was unsuccessful...what's the secret to posting pictures on this forum?

Now I see the problem. I can't upload pics until I have at least 3 posts. This is my 3rd post so let me see if I can upload some pics now.....

Ok, here are some pics. Mechanically the boat is in pretty good shape and the motor runs well. Cosmetically there are a few things that need to be done, starting with the seats. Considering what I paid for it, I am not complaining.

You found a nice SN! Great potential if you're up for a restore she could be better than new.

Thanks! I think I did well for under $2,000. At some point I would like to strip it, LINE-X the interior and repaint the exterior, but for now I will just enjoy it. When the time does come for me to get ambitious, what is the best way to strip the old paint off the aluminum? Would sandblasting be too hard on it?

Nice looking Sea Nymph, and congrats! There's just something about these old Sea Nymphs that I absolutely love.

I have purchased a 1990 Sea Nymph TX155 Tournament with a 25 Evinrude.... I absolutely love it and have been tuning it up. Everything is original and only has around 30 hours or so on it and was kept in a garage covered. I would like to take the stock tape player am/fm radio out and put in a CD player though. I am having trouble figuring out how to get it out without damaging anything else. Any help on this would be great.

Fish,

I have a similar SeaNymph, a GLS195. I re-powered with a Mercury 115, removing on old Evinrude 90, but kept the original kicker a Mariner 9.9. I use the kicker when puttering around local lakes and when fishing in Lake Ontario. I can get about 7 - 8 MPH when running only the kicker at a almost full open. As with you I feel the kicker is both functional for trolling but also insurance in the event the main does not run. The kicker is 2 cycle pull start, mechanically connected to the steering of the main motor.
I will post a picture when I can so you can see the configuration.

Erik

Post up a pic of the dash and the stereo. I take it it's not like some of the players that need a special tool to unhook it from the carriage?

I have those special tools but I can't see anywhere that it would insert or work. I will get a picture up as soon as I get a chance to take the pic. Thanks

Watermann, looking at your restoration projects has given me an itch my bank account just can't scratch right now. Both of them look like first class jobs. You also have the "advantage" of having an off-season to work on projects. :smow: It's always boating season where I live. I think for now I will just have to be content adding some equipment I need and enjoying it the way it is. I am tentatively planning to take my family to the Florida Keys for some snorkeling and fishing in March. That gives me about 6 months to add some things I need: New seats, a VHF radio, a saltwater trolling motor, a kicker motor and a larger fuel tank. My SN obviously used to have a built-in fuel tank, but it was removed by a PO. All I have at the moment is a 6 gal portable tank that just isn't going to get the job done with my thirsty 90 hp. I am looking for a belly tank, but am having difficulty finding one that will fit in the space I have available under the deck.

Thanks for checking my resto work and the kind words!

Yeah belly tanks are the best way to go, keeps center of gravity down and it's nice to have capacity of at least 30 gal.

Fish,

I am not exactly sure if it is a long shaft but I believe it is from what I have seen of online photos of other long shaft Mariner motors. As for the bracket I am assuming you mean the pieces that attach to the large motor steering shaft, the Mariner housing and the bar that connects the two. As it came with the boat when I purchased it 3 yrs ago I would say, yes to it being custom.

Regards,
Erik

Fish,

Here are the pics.

Thanks for showing the pics. Your transom looks really short compared to my Striper cc191, but it might just be the angle of the picture. I thought the GLS and Stripers use the same hulls. I just found a 15hp long shaft Evinrude to add to my Striper as a kicker/troller. Its not mounted yet due to many other projects around the house. August will be even busier with a week long business trip thrown in. All these distractions are cutting in on my fishing time.
