I live in Churubusco, IN. I come across an older deck boat. All I have info for is a metal name tag on the side. The plate says The Deck Boat Gatesville, Tex. It is 16 feet long and 80 inches wide. It has pipe railing around it. I?m guessing it was made in the 70?s. I have only found one picture on line. I could send a picture of it if that would help you to help me. I?m looking for any info that would be helpful to restore this relic. Manuals, pictures, what the person capacity, where there any common problems with this boat? Maybe you could guide me to some one that could help? Thanks Tracy

Welcome to iboats Dry Dock......

As for your pontoon you'll be hard pressed to find a manual as most didn't have one when new. Now for the lay out, it's up to you, they are easy to work on so get creative.

Also there is a pontoon forum here that may offer more help than we do here, either way you'll get all your questioned answered.

Re: The Deck Boat

Hey Bigt145
I have a 1983 Deck Boat. It is made by Deck Boat. I have found very little information on this boat. Mine is 18' 6" long and 80" wide. I have a 1990 evinrude 120hp vro on it.
If you find any info please let me know. I am trying to restore mine.
Good luck with yours.

Re: The Deck Boat

Reviving this thread:

Can the owners who have posted in this thread speak to the stability and draft of this boat? Looking at one of these locally. Would be used for lake fishing and bowfishing primarily. Possibly some tubing, kneeboard, etc. if its up to it. (I really like the front & center console style.)

The one for sale here is in fairly rough shape. Has a I/O four cylinder. Is this the 3.0L Ford? Has anyone re-powered theirs?

Thanks!

Re: The Deck Boat

Welcome abord.
You really should have started your own thread but it's all deck boat related anyhow...
To answer a few of your Q's:
The tri-hull, or modified V, is very stable but rides like a hay wagon in chop!
With enough power behind them they can be great for water sports and there definately great for fishing as well.
The 3.0 I-4 is a chevy engine, wheather it's painted blue (OMC) or black (Mercruiser).
I'm in the process of repowering mine with an outboard (follow the link in my sig).
Most deck boats are fiberglass and like most old fiberglass boats, they're prone to waterlogged foam, rotten transoms, floors and stringers.
I hope this helps you.

Re: The Deck Boat

I'm actually interested in this particular model deck boat ("The Deck Boat" manufactured in Gatesville, TX) as it is the one I've looked at here locally. That's why I revived this thread. I'll let the mods determine if this should be closed I guess.

Thank you for the general info regarding the hull type and 3.0L. I do not know if this is the I-4 that is in this boat now, or another engine. Hopefully some folks who know about this particular make/model will chime in. The company's now defunct website (americasdeckboat.com) pictured all of them with outboards...

Dang, I was just given a 1974 deck boat that was built in Gateville (the town where the juvenile prison was/is located that our gym coach used to threaten us with) and am looking for info to help me do some restoration on it. It needs: deck and seat refinish, transom reinforcement/rebuilding, replacement bimini cover, and miscellaneous wiring and control equipment rework.
My basic question is whether these were built with foam flotation between the hull and the deck. I would hope so, because I don't want to swamp it someday and become alligator chow. It seems like the work should be straightforward enough to patch it up. Anybody know of a good fiberglass supplier? New to this site but maybe there is a link here. Mine is an outboard and there is an info tag on the steering console but the persons and weight capacity are pretty faded. May be able to read it with some better light and squinting.

Re: The Deck Boat

The best supplier I have found with much research is US composits their pricing is way better than most. Their web sight is not fancy buy easy to follow and a person answers their phone that seems to know what they are talking about. I am in the middle os a resto on a 1989 sylvan deck boat 17ft. It is a great fishing boat as well as a good family boat. Its sits flat on the water and reminds me of a floating island. I only have a 70 merc on mine and she will run 30 mph and jump out of the hole I guess its the wide beam. Rough water is no problem we just run with the bow up and ride the waves. This boat will not run fast in a heavy chop it will beat you to death but the stability at trolling speeds is king. We use it to troll for striper and crappie as well as night time catfishing and camping out on the water. It sits so stable you can sleep in a one foot chop with out rocking. I feel the hull is worth rebuilding which is what I have started on. Transom, stringers and sole.
