Jtex,
"No, not sarcasm. I salute your conviction. And if God forbid you should ever find yourself in that situation, and if your boys choose not to join up, I promise not to question your beliefs on the basis of your kids' career choices. As Pink Floyd so elequently put it, "and I mean that most sincerely.""

Thats what I get for not c&p your quote. I should have used your "I salute your conviction" comment.

no...seriously...it does sound sarcastic, but only because it's so rare for one person in an argument to acknowlege an admirable quality in the other. hence the Pink Floyd quote. which also sounds sarcastic. just didn't want ya gettin the big head.

and I do believe your kids will make good choices...they might not be your choices...especially before about age 27...

Re: The danger's of a liberal mind.

jimonica,

In order of your posts.

1) The "conservative" radio talk show host I listen to takes dissenting opinions first, and those who are coherent are allowed more airtime than anyone else. It is an absolute rule and I believe it. Almost all radio talk shows use screeners (I know of one exception and I am not a regular listener), The role of the screener is to create good radio, not necessarily to show allegiance to the host or humiliate callers . . . My we are cynical.

2) The fact that the military budget has a line on it for personnel limits gross troop levels IMHO. I am not basing my opinion solely on recruiting goals, or one site.

3) My kid and I are on the same page on many issues. Amazing, as most young Americans are decidedly "liberal" at his age. He has been scoffed at by teachers in his high school, which we are both sorta proud of, I have not raised a lemming. He is very articulate and is not aggressive, nor obnoxious. I have never asked him to consider the military, this may be inconsistent, I haven't thought about it before. It does not have ANY bearing on the validity of my words. They may be totally false, but they are not invalidated by what my kid does or doesn't do. I do however openly praise my nephew who served and the two I mentioned above. These people are friends of mine, I did not bring them to my home to recruit my kid, where the flip did you get that?

4) I use simple words often to define things that are clear to me. When the POTUS is called evil or is accused of evil deeds (which I would consider staging a war to enhance Halliburton revenues to be an evil deed as an example) it is very easy for me to note that those we fight are evil and not our President. I have had many a doubt about the war in Iraq, however, I always revert to the fact that we are fighting some very evil individuals and ideologies. I will never refer to a suicide bomber as frustrated or desperate. I will always refer to one that does the suicide bombing or one that instills suicide bombing tendencies as evil. They are. So, yes, I believe we are fighting evil in Iraq. I also refer to brutal dictators as evil, Hitler was evil, Stalin was evil, Saddam Hussein still is. I am glad to be rid of them. Threatening innocents with WMD (even if you do not have them) is evil, using them is worse, and Saddam Hussein has done both. I don't care who sold them to him, or that we can't find them. That is meaningless to me. No rewind button.

So, again, this remains very simple for me jimonica. It makes me very sad that for you it is not, and this is why I continue to post on these ridiculous threads.
