Re: The confession thread

Actually I just unscrewed the hose from the fitting on the muffs as I needed to use the hose on the pressure washer and left the muffs on as I was going to try to start it again in the morning when it was cold to double check the primer. Twenty different projects going at the same time and I never got back to the boat.

Re: The confession thread

I have several stories but I'll just give one now. (at work) My buddy and I were going fishing in his 15' Bayliner fish & ski. His boat has a small casting platform in the rear and all gear is stored under it. You know, tackle boxes, food, gas, PFD, batteries, etc. It was early, before sunrise, and we were headed to the lake. As it got brighter he looked out his rear view mirror and said " Look at that bright sunrise" He didn't know I was looking at the sunrise, in front of us! I turned around to look at the boat and the back of it was on fire. We pulled over real quick and grabbed the fire extenguisher to put out the fire. Well, we got it out, but we burnt up my 6 rods, 4 of his rods, all PFD's, and my tackle box. It seems he did not have the battery tied down in any way so when he made a turn it tipped over and slid into his metal gas tank. The two top posts hit the tank, and made like a welder arcing the holes into the tank and setting it aflame. He turned it into his insurance and he fixed his boat, got his gear, and...I got a new rod out of it.
Unforunatley..more to come.

Re: The confession thread

My brother in law and I went out fishing for the best mans trip on my old K14 Sundance flats boat. We go over to the other side of the indian river and start trolling. I notice water coming in. I had the darn plug in so i put on my bilge pump; the fuse went. So we decided to head home to my parents house where I kept the boat. By then the water is everywhere and filling up. I pore on the coal and all the water goes back to the boat making it point straight up. My bil takes over and I start bailing the water out. When we got home, the water level has risen about an inch more. So we put her on the lift and discovered not only did the bilge go out but the seal for the plug as well. My bil never let off the hook and still tells his friends at the parties my sister has for their anniversary.

Another I went out and followed the parents on their boat to an island for a cook out. I decided to raise the motor so I could fish near shore. Being clumsy, I let the rod that keeps the engine in the hole position go into the river.

I don't think this qualifies as being a "DOH" moment. That could happen to anyone. Don't beat yourself up over it. Stuff happens.

Last time I went out I checked the pump because it had not come on in a while and I was curious. Sure enough it was dead. I replaced the wire to the battery (again temporarily) but at the same time managed to disconnect the Stern lamp. Turns out much of the wire in this boat is not that pre-tinned stuff I have learned is needed. The boat re-wire starts this week I hope.
