My hometown in Newfoundland had been cut off from the world since Hurricane Igor swept thru last week. They are getting low on food and fuel. The highway has 4 large washouts and it is the only route to the rest of the country. There's a lot of damage and many homes uninhabitable. My sister's driveway is now lowered by 3 feet. The federal government have now dispatched 140 engineers and equipment to assist in getting the roads open, as well as 3 war ships to bring supplies and assistance. The power is back on for most and phones are working. There are several pictures on the web. Google Hurricane Igor Burin Peninsula. I'm wondering how our buddy Tallcanadian made out. The storm went through his area as well.

I sincerely hope you guys get taken care of and make it through with the minimum of inconvenience. Our house was hit by 3 hurricanes in 2004 and we still haven't got it all sorted out.

Been there, done that, have the T-Shirt, had the shingles all over the yard and the Army guys everywhere. I called it Bagdad without the bombs.

Its a weird existence, but you get used to it and do what needs to be done.

If anyone hears from TC, let us know. I've been to St. Johns a bunch of times (a long time ago) and NF is a beautiful place. I hope they can back to normal soon!

All is good in my neck of the woods. Luckily we live in the middle of the province and away from the water. We got off very easy. Mind you we had a ton of wind and about 150mm (6 inches) of rain. The lakes overflowed and a few trees were damage. However other communities recieved over 300 mm (12 inches) of rain. Homes were washed away, bridges, roads, etc. Still no power to some, no groceries, gas, etc. It is the worst storm in Newfoundland history. Only 1 death, some poor man in his 80's was standing in his driveway when the ground under him washed him away. He's not been found yet.
Here's a few pics. Not sure how they turned out, it's from our local newscast.

Wow! I am afraid with the advent of the internet and other instant news, we have become jaded to these natural disasters. Your pictures help personalize the pain.

Glad you sidestepped the worst of it!
