Re: texas 911 call

Wataga is pretty close to Dallas, and is part of our local area for news & weather information. When ever there is a news story from there--- its always something nutty like this.

And here, our Police/Fire Depts. do have regular phone numbers leaving the 911 system for serious emergencys. Most cities have the equipment to be able to sidetrack your call off the 911 system and keep it open if you don't have a emergency and can't figure out how to use a non-emergency phone number.

Many also have a '311' or similar 3 digit number for quick response to non-emergency Police or Fire Dept. calls. The operators are trained, but not Police Officers at the desk answering the calls.

Re: texas 911 call

Originally posted by jtexas:
Sorry, but the number for my local police department is 9-1-1. Look it up. Want to find out what form you need to report a non-injury auto accident? Dial 9-1-1. Want to report an abandoned auto on your street? Dial 9-1-1. Got a crazy teen endangering herself or others? Dial 9-1-1. I don't know about Somewhere Outside Washington DC, but around here nobody "can't reach 911." You might get some kind of a-hole wannabe commedian when you do, but your call will get through. And you will be treated with courtesy, professionalism and respect by the officers that respond.
In my little corner of the world, the Police and Sheriff do have a seven digit phone #, but guess who answers it? the 911 operator. So if you don't have a phone book, or the refigerator there in the car with you, who ya gonna call? If you dial in with a non-emergency you can bet you're going to be put on hold if there's another call.
So basically I'm agreeing with jtexas :)

Re: texas 911 call

No doubt spending a week in dispatch, communications or whatever is an eye opener. Unfortunately we didn't hear the previous 2 or three calls the operator took. Would of got short shift on the '000' in West Oz
