Tethered Laynard not working

I have a 92 Bayliner Capri. With a push button kill switch, New state law requires a tethered one. The push button worked just fine, so I replaced it on the same line, I tried both wires the two different ways it can be hooked up. And the engine will not stop with the tether plugged in or out. The tether I bought was a fifteen dollar one from amazon, Do these older bayliners require a certain type? Or does anybody have any ideas on why the new switch will not kill the engine.

Outboards use the normally closed, held open terminals

I/Os and powered ignitions use the normally open, held closed terminals

Not sure what you bought from chineseazom

I would think that boats/engines manufactured prior to whenever the law went into effect are grandfathered and whatever type of operator presence currently in place is considered effective/legal

Not sure what state you reside in but would imagine law enforcement wouldn't be interested as much about the style of switch more that it works properly/as designed. And more specifically that would be in the case of criminal charges/loss of life
