Re: Terror alert

I confess to be at a complete loss as to what you folks are talking about.
Saddam's ties to alqaida? Even George Tenet, the head of the CIA, said not two months ago, in front of a senate committee said there were absolutely no documented ties between Alqaida and Saddam. Powell's documentation was weak at best.
Saddam has not had the power in the last ten years to attack anyone at all, or even make any noises that he wanted to.
Saddam's goals and Alqaida's goals have always been at odds
I know we are going to bomb Iraq into oblivion. That seems to be a given at this point. All I am saying is that for those that think this will make the world a safer place, Good luck.
And I have no idea what North Korea may do, but what is well documented is that they are willing and anxious to sell any weapon system they have to whomever has the money to buy it.
North Korea is yet another country with not a lot to lose.
And I can read just fine, Beaux. I think we apparently have a difference in interpretation.
I think that when dealing with a schoolyard bully, others, no matter how weak they seem, find ways of getting even.
And no, I don't think I will clean out that closet. I am going to fish for Dungeness Crab at the mouth of the Columbia River this weekend--I'll have to worry about being afraid of the terrorists on monday.

Re: Terror alert

BTW, if these ties to Saddam and Alqaida are so well documented, why in the world have we not attacked them already? Why are we bothering with all this fol-de-rol with inspectors and WMD? There is a provision in the UN that says we can retaliate for being attacked (there is a number for that, but not sure which it is). So why have we waited this long?
We need to get our stories straight about what this is about. Is it about disarming Iraq? Or is it about helping and aiding alqaida terrorists?
It seems to change depending on what the administration thinks it can sell. And to whom.

Its called "Politics" Plywoody! They are playing a game to get more people to help fund and support the action that WILL be taken...soon.

I differ from your thoughts completly! But that is what makes America. Your view, I respect. I think your wrong and that is my thoughts. Thank god Gore is not the President and Clinton is just a "impeached has been in history" to bad he was not removed from office :(

Re: Terror alert

And no, Hooty, I see no real purpose in rehashing the Clinton debate.
After two years and a bit of Bush, that should be more than enough to keep our attention focused.

What I do know is that the economy in this country is far worse than it was. My 401(k) is worth a fraction of what it was. I am better off than some, as a whole bunch of Portland General Electric employees had all of their's in Enron stock, being a subsidiary.

I know when the President did his initial selling of the original tax cut, he said in his SOU speech that there was more than enough in budget surpluses to pay for it, even if the economy sputters a bit.
The next year, in the SOU speech, he said that we are going into a small deficit, but it will be very short lived.
This year, in the SOU speech and the subsequent budget, we find out, all through the government's own numbers, BTW, that the projected budget deficit will be a minimum of 1 trillion dollars over the next five years, with no end in sight.

Not including any cost of any military action against Iraq.

We have seen this administration disengage from diplomacy in the world, be it Israel and Palestine, the mid east, North Korea, and now we are facing any number of potential serious crisises. Thank heavens Colin Powell is there with some skill, or we would be in real trouble.

And, from a purely regional point of view, the state of Oregon is laying off some 25% of its state police due to budget problems. And cutting school funding by some 30%

So much for Homeland security and leaving no child behind!

I could go on and on and on.

The fact is, for me at least, I was far better off under Clinton than I am under Bush.

And, based on the available evidence, I had lots more trust and faith in Clinton.

Re: Terror alert

Well now everyone has their right to their opinion as it should be, but if someone does not want to fight for their country(Clinton), then he is no better than Muhammad Ali was when he refused to go to fight for our country.
Now I am glad they didn't, because they are the one's we had to watch out for in war, was the cowards. They would get you shot/killed faster than anything.
I don't have anything for anyone that would not fight for their country.
I lost many a good friend in Vietnam, some were scared, some were just there. Young/old, it did not matter, but what counted was that they were there, and not hiding behind some religious excuse, or any other excuse for that matter.
Oh I had better shut up again before I get started.
I just had cowards and anyone that don't want to defend what is their's so it will be here for their children.

Re: Terror alert

I thought the U.S. government is oil hungry and I still do but beyond that maybe enough is enough.
1. Would this be a better world if that piece of crap Saddam was f'n dead?... yes.
2. Would this be a better world if those fleabag terrorists were exterminated?... yes.
3. Is it time to take them all out before they can kill millions instead of thousands?... yes.
(don't think they won't at the first opportunity!)

I think there is big trouble coming regardless but maybe enough is enough. Diplomacy? Like the diplomacy of Kuwait or 9-11. I say do it! Take Saddam out... for good.
One more thing... where the heck is Bin Laden? Who thinks he's dead already?

Re: Terror alert

Americans and UN members needing proof of Husseins affiliation with Bin ladens Al Qaeda before they justify action is like needing proof of the Crypts gangs affiliation with The Raiders gang before they are considered dangerous.Fact is,both gangs are corrupt and Hussein runs his own terrorist and hate regime.
Rebuttle? :p
