Temperature sensor

We found this (what I believe is a temperature sensor) just sitting on the bottom of the motor near the bottom of the carb. Where is it suppose to go? Thank you.

Is it the bad one ?
Make / model / serial number of motor ? Any NOT CONNECTED wire around ?

Thank you for the help. It is a 2002 Evinrude ficht. 250hp I don't see any not connected wire around.

could be just the air temp sensor fell out of position....it must fit on a clip or held by a bolt
