telltale

Sorry for my ignorance, what is a telltale?
I've heard about this but don't know what it is.

Stream of water that should pump out of the starboard lower rear of the motor in most cases. Lets you know your water pump is functioning. Does not tell you if your motor is cooling correctly though.

The water pee stream on an outboard that you can see so you know the impeller (water pump) is working.
