Other issue is after the storm surge, the power is likely to be out, maybe for days or couple weeks. Maybe utility water is also gone, or unsafe. Most likely any generators you had are also flooded, all sorts of knock on effects, stores wont be open. Life there is going to be hard for a while. Your roof might have blown off. House might be gone. You will be around lots of needy people who need everything. You might get hurt and need medical care. You or those with you might die. Imagine if you have a chronic medical condition, and can't get medicine or any care.

A long time friend built & moved to their dream home on the water in Port Charlotte 2yrs ago.

He's posted since Helene, but has been incommunicado since late Sat, hopefully was busy with home prep for storm and bugging out.

Ugh. My mom "evacuated" about 1 mile in in Nokomis. Didn't listen to me to GTFO. Going to be about the worst place for the surge. Helene wiped out all the dunes already.

Storm surge does not include the rainfall, correct? Have to add that water that is not able to run off to the storm surge?

As far as I know Joe that's correct. Surge is the water being pushed against the shores by the winds.

Looking like it will hit south of SRQ. So the heavy rains will be 46.7 miles north (distance from eye to outer bands).

They dropped the storm surge to 9-13 from 10-15
