I have removed the lower unit, removed the 6 bolts (3 on each side) under the power head but it does not lift off the mid section. I have about one eighth of an inch of movement on the power head. Am I missing a bolt some where, do I just need to pull harder on the head to remove it, is the exhaust manifold stuck? I have tried to lift it off with a pry bar and am afraid of breaking some thing. Any ideas? Thanks

I remember having trouble when I first did this. (actually it was an '84 6hp but almost identical.)

6 bolts is right IIRC but its the inner exhaust tube that is the trouble.

Rock the power head backward and forwards to release it. I was trying to rock it from side to side but it won't do that!
