Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

Hey so i got a spare tire for my trailer - and i went to get a wire holder (simple U shaped one to mount to side of trailer a few feet back from trailer winch.

The fulton locking one doesn't fit!?!?! the U isn't wide enough for side mounting because trailer is to thick (tall)...

Any one find a good cheap option? I was hoping to just buy some U clamps in the bulk hardware area...but i suppose not much chance of them fitting in tire hub holes well....

Any idea what the factory "option" one looks like? I need to get a spare setup too.

Nope - and from photos online on their site - not much help.

I need to measure the frame - and most likely order one that just has the size limits of frame listed on the package/website.

Seems like the vertical height of the frame is quite large compared to others - and/or people with this type of boat typically use the standoff style, instead of the simple ubolt. I don't see that being an issue with the boat/trailer - ubolt appears like it should work just fine.

Anyone else have a spare on their Q5?

Just from google images. Might help some?

And I found this. from http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Cargo-Control/Dutton-Lainson/DL22120.html

Great spare tire mount for boat trailer I have a late model Tahoe Q4 Fish & Ski combo boat, and the trailer came without a spare tire. After locating a spare, I needed a way to mount it and found this bracket on the etrailer.com site. Shipping was prompt and the product mounted quickly and easily to the trailer frame rail without interfering with the side of the boat. Seems quite sturdy and durable. Made in the USA, too! 38

If I remember right, $50 is what I paid from the dealer for the factory spare tire mount. Might be a little more, but the paint color is the same as the trailer frame. Also got the spare from the dealer as well since for some reason that seemed to be the only place that had black rims instead of white or silver.

My spare tire holder, practically new, broke off of my trailer, totalled the trailer and nearly caused a massive pile up. The weld failed. That was the most expensive spare holder I could find as some were a little lighter construction. Beware the spare tire holder.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the spare tire...that would really suck!

I have to take this up with the spare tire mount manufacturer still. I called them when it happened and they told me they'd make it right. I unfortunatly put the boat into winter storage right then so need to follow back up with them this many months later. The bummer is this Shorelandr roller trailer is expensive to replace...over 4k plus the cost to hoist the boat from the old trailer to the new. Regardless you have to poke your head between the spare tire and hull and look for weld cracks. I do see that they changed the design now so the pressure point spot from the weight of the tire has an extra brace on it.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

Question for ya, I need to replace my tires on my factory trailer that came with my 2009-Q5 (walls have deep cracks in them from direct sunlight). Can you let me know the size of the tires? My boat is currently is storage and I would like to have the new tires with me so I can change them when I pick the boat up.

Cheers,
MB.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

Hello all sorry to thread jack here a bit but it means to have gone a touch off point anyway and didnt want to start another topic. Last weekend carried the boat down to lake for a ride and almost there I noticed I had a tire going flat. Get it pulled over into a parking lot and I have a sidewall cracked leaking air. It was after lunch on a Saturday and no one was open who carried trailer tires. Had to end up buying a passenger tire from Walmart to get me by till I can get it over to the tire shop this week and put new trailer tires on it. Now I am going to have a new tire with 10 miles on it thats pretty much useless to me and got me thinking I could mount it up on a rim and attached to my trailer and could use it in a emergency if this ever happens again. I have a 2006 Tahoe Q4 its the last year they made the 19.5' before making it the Q5. My question is this does anyone have a spare on a 19.5 Q4? It looks like it would be a really tight fit all the way forward. They make a angled mount as well that tilts the tire itself to give more clearance when loading the boat but they are twice as expensive. Just wondering if anybody can give me some insight on clearance with this particular model boat and trailer package.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

It was dicey fit for my Q5 - they really put the boat on a nice, compact trailer. Which makes fitting in garage fantastic. However a large spare - makes it tight. Just need a offset tire mount or one that gets the tire a little ways from the trailer.

Could always do an under mount also.

Once you get a tire you can play with it and see how to mount it without hitting. I was able to buy a couple mounts locally and then see which one worked best. Love fleet farm for decent priced options.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

I got new trailer tires friday and my spare mounted on a new rim and ordered a offset spare tire mount that angles back under the trailer. Fingers crossed!!!! Hopefully I will have enough clearance to be comfortable with. Even if I have to carry it around in the truck bed I will be ok as long as I'm not stranded on the side of the road with a flat on a single axle trailer. Link below of what I ordered and will post up a pic when installed. I agree boatdrinksq5 mine has only a couple of feet clearance storing in the garage so I feel they did a nice job with the trailer.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

I just ordered mine. I ended up going with just the painted white wheel. If I'm feeling frisky I might try painting it silver to match the factory rims. Bought both the tire/rim and mount from etrailer.com Hopefully it all ships quickly.

I also bought a 7-pin trailer side connector. Going to replace the flat 5 with this so I don't have to 1) go without reverse lock out using my 4-pin or 2) use the adapter which I hate because its not a very tight fit.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

I have a 7pin-5pin adapter and recently found that I need the pin to lockout my breaks during reverse up my steeper, new driveway.

I was under the impression last year, that the trailer wiring locked it out automaticly. Seems you have the same impression....

What is the case? Do i have a adapter plug issue? Would a seven wire plug fix it? hmmmm

would be nice to have it electronically taken care of.

Ack... I hope it works. I never had a chance to test it when I was using my adapter, but HATED that thing which is why the $14 to swap it over seemed to make sense.

I greased my slider this weekend and noticed it was a lot more sensitive to backing up (like my trailer wouldn't go over my garage hump) and I had to use the pin lock. The dealer explained to me that that 5th wire would allow you to not use the pin.

Definitely post an update when you get it wired up! Would love to avoid the use of the hokey mechanical pin lockout.

Re: Tahoe Spare Tire Mount?

You should be using a 4+1. the adapter should have 4 holes and one exposed pin. That one pin will be your electronic reverse lockout. it runs off of you reverse lights.
