Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

as far as rod/reel combos, I don't nearly have enough. Maybe 10 counting fly rods. I get tired of switching rigs every time I go fishing. Money is the issue. My tackle problem is I have no money, and found a great deal on a box of awesome lures....but since I can't afford to replace, and in some cases, can't find, these lures if I lose them, I'm too scared to use them and stick with my same old stuff, lol.

I wish "too much" was my problem

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

Last time I was in Outdoor pro shop Josh asked me what I was doing there, you already have everything we sell. Well, that's not true by a long shot but I have a lot of stuff I've never even used. I bought a brand new G-Loomis spining rod and Diawa Balistic reel before I left on my trip and never got it wet. I favored the ultra-light and my fly rod most of the time. My friend Val Aubrey (Jay Fair) got me hooked on fly tying. I'd heard that catching a fish on a fly you tied yourself was pretty gratifying, I can't begin to explain how true that is.

What has always amazed me is how you can buy 10 very very simialr lures and on any given day, only one will catch fish. I'm pretty sure that's what causes the addiction to the impulse buying at tackle shops. As for rods and reels, the problem is that we're always in search of that one setup that just feels right. I don't know if we'll ever stop searching but I've found that if you buy the best and spend the extra moeny it does tend to limit your selection process. It does nothing for the urge though.

Don't know how old you are but,,,it looks to me like your just getting started,,,,,LOL. I have 27 combos just for Lake Michigan salmon and trout. Dozen tackle boxes, bags, even a couple of 5 gallon pails filled with assorted lures. Now if you want to include other species specific combos and tackle for panfish, walleye, bass, northern, muskie, fly fishing,,SHHHHHHH gotta go wife might see this post,,,,,,

You want to talk about hunting equipment????????????????

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

George, I can relate. I must have at least a dozen bass setups. I rig them all before I go out and take them all with me. But there's a reason for that. If you get on the fish and hang up you just break the line and grab another rod that's rigged and ready to go. I call it a day when I'm out of rigged rods.

When I'm fishing trout, I have three favorites, my Sage fly rod, my Loomis 8'6 and my Loomis 7' ultra light. I don't lose my gear often with those and switching back and forth still leaves me with plenty of wet line time.

When I'm Steelhead fishing it's either the Sage 9-6 or the Loomis 8'6" but rarely both since I'm usually waiding in a river. I have a 9' Lamiglass back bouncer for when I'm drifting.

However, knowing what I use and when and knowing that I really don't need anything more does not stop my impulsive buying. And, I know better.. so no excuses from me.

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

Pretty sure if I had the cash, I'd fill my whole garage, but I don't, lol. My biggest draw to get more gear is so I can go out fishing without having to re-rig my setup for whatever I'm going after. Someday, but I've only been fishing for 5 years and am 33. I figure if I have 10 rods, that's 2 per year. By the time I'm 40 I'll have 24 rods. Then I'll be ok for a while, :D

I AM Drooling !!
Been years since i have seen sucha beautiful lay-out of rigged rods/reels .
I am rigged with 3 rods on my boat ,, a cat rig , a heavy casting rig, and an ultra-light for bait !!
Seems i get the most action on the ultra-light. Nothing to write home about ,,but do have fun feeding the minnows to the fish !

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

I have the addiction but its a little different variation of the disease from most. Instead of mass quantities, I still have 60+ combos, I turned around and went for quality. The way I look at it, two Lamborghini trumps ten Ford Mustangs in the garage ;)

24- #20-50 trolling rod and reel. All rods custom built, performance modifications on reels

8- Surf rods and reels. All custom built, performance modification on all reels

6 - Spinning and casting Combos ? Custom built rods

8-10 misc. Spinning and casting Combos ? the best of my old collection

12-18 in the parts / loaner pile. Lefts over that I scrounge for parts or loan out

6-8 new in bag ? Tournament winnings. I sell them off or give them away as presents from time to time.

Owning a custom rod and reel business doesn?t help with the addiction at all :D:D

Tackle wise, I have 1 guide series tackle bag and 4 drawers on the boat full of tackle. Most tackle is designed to catch fisherman, not fish ;)

I switched to one of those a couple of years ago. I liked it right away. Mine holds 4 of the large plano boxes and has room for about a half dozen reels on top. There's plenty of room in the side pockets and extra mesh pockets inside for stuff that you need fast but always seems to be invisible in other tackle boxes. If you all are looking for your next wish list item I'd definitely recommend one.. NGT you've seen mine. Outdoor Pro has them.

Of course there's those half dozen other smaller plano boxes under the seats that I rarely remember to look in and the fly fishing vest that's pretty well loaded and always up under the bow if I don't have it on. LOL... this truely is an addiction that would challenge even Dr. Phil!

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

I have about 23 or 24 rods, total. And a couple of tackle boxes crammed full. Other than a few salmon spoons I have bought almost nothing for new lures this year. I don't need to. If I can't find something a fish will bite in the two boxes I am not changing lures fast enough.

I just drew the conclusion last year that I do not need any more tackle- just more fishing time.

I have 11 rods on the boat at all times. These include a pair of identical leadcore rods, and a pair of identical downrigger rods. I have two spinning setups for bottom-bouncing for walleye but one is a heavy and the other a medium so I can use them on the same side of the boat for stagger. Three different spinning setups for trolling (a couple of these dbl-duty for casting as well) and one of my two very long rods with line counters for trolling with a Slide Diver Lite Bite. Then my 10' glass fly blank I epoxied into a trolling handle rigged with 30# powerpro on a spinning reel that handles a variety of trolling chores.

I can catch fish now- my tackle addiction waned when I found that i didn't need anything more to catch fish. Then lean times came. I am still catching fish. :)

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

WOW .... you guys operate in an entirely different universe that I do .... I have two bass bait casting rods/reel combo which are at lest 25 years old ... two bass/walleye rod/reel combos which are the same age, one pan fish outfit, one fly rod, two good surf outfits, and one salt water boat rod/reel .... none were cheap when purchased, all fit me extremely well... I do have a large bass/pan fish tackle box, a surf casting box, and a walleye tackle box .... I guess that once I find a rig that I'm comfortable with, that is the one I use

Re: tackle addiction??? you got it?

A old timer once gave me some very good advice about buying fishing tackle,...

"Go to the store every week when you get payed and buy three of the lures that you want,Not because you need three, But if it works for you they will quit making it and you'll wish you had bought more of them",.......

Great advice,.............

For some odd reason I have lot's of stuff,....................:D
