tacho wiring Johnson 40hp 1993

Firstly thankyou in advance to all who reply,, can someone tell me which is the correct signal wire for the tacho which i assume will be located within the black box mounted on the engine,, I dont have a wiring loom or control box other than the one on the engine,, thanks

Many thanks Joe,, For further information for others reading this thread,, I did some more digging around and found a post which mentioned three yellow wires (each with a colour band),, The correct wire for my "tach signal" is the yellow with the grey band.
which i was able to splice and the tach now works fine, hope this post also helps others , and glad to be a part of this superb forum

Normally a "gray" wire is attached to the stator/rectifier's yellow/gray wire at the engine's wiring terminal..... with that gray wire leading up through the engine and instrument wiring harness to the control panel area. That gray wire is the one (at the control panel) of which I spoke.
