tach wire..800 thunderbolt+gauge advice

hi guys. Im wanting to hook up a tach to my outboard and wondering what wire is for the tach..Also out of curiosity...What guages can be hooked up and your oppinions on what gauges i should have. thanks in advance!

The color of the tach signal wire depends on the year of the motor. Older motors had brown wires. newer motors have grey wires.

The grey wires on the older motors went to the choke solenoid, so trace it out.

I would recommend a Tach, fuel gauge (permanent tank only), a speedo and a water pressure gauge. A compass is nice if you play in large lakes, bays or the ocean.

What year is your motor? The control unit has a plug in for guages, specifically the tach. As mentioned, grey fo tach, purple for power, black for ground. There are 5 wires (can't remember what the other two do...think something with temp). The plug will either come out of the box, or it will be a small hole the size of a penny in the front of the unit possibly.
