Surface Gap Plugs..?

Hey guys. About to replace plugs on my E140TLCCM. Someone told me to use surface gap plugs. What's the deal with them? Any benefits?

I recommend you use the plugs specified for that motor. Surface Gap plugs have different heat ranges and may cause engine damage. I have never found them to be an advantage in my Mercs, and actually think them inferior.

The Champion surface gap was one of the recommended plugs, but the QL77JC4 is better for all around use.

The currently recommended plug is the Champion QL78YC gapped at .030.
