Sure Lube Spindle issues.

I have a 1993 stratos bass boat with the original trailer. I came with the Sure Lube spindles. They use a dust cap with the zerk fitting made into them. You pump grease into the cap which forces grease through the outer bearing filling the cavitiy in the middle then pushing grease through the inner bearing and then its hits the seal and its forced through two small holes on each side of the spindle and out the back of the spindle. Problem I am having is there seems to be a collar on the spindle that the seal rides and it slightly turns on its on and blocks small passages. So that when I try to add a couple of shots of grease to the hubs it pops the cap off. I cannot find any info anywhere regarding this collar. I can spin it back in line so that the grease will pass through the hub but of course I have to take it all apart each time I lube that hub. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,..... Sounds like the spindle got beat up, 'n somebody put a speedi-sleeve on it to save the spindle,.....

It also sounds like yer over greasin' it,...

As Bondo stated.

Take an ice pick, or similar utensil and punch a hole in the speedi-sleeve. Hardest part of the task is locating the hole to punch the sleeve

Pretty sure you don't have Sure Lube hubs.
Sure Lube hubs have the zerk on the outside, AND the old grease is expelled thru the outside of the hub alongside of the spindle.

You may have Super lube, or EZ lube, redi lube, spindle lube, or ? hubs.

Ok, Im currently on vacation, but when I return I will be tearing the hubs down again.... lol and I will take some detailed photos to post to actually show you guys what I am talking about. And maybe they are not called Sure Lube spindles, thats what I gathered from an online forum. I know that they are the factory spindles from whatever company made these trailers for stratos back in the day.

I have Reliable Sure Lube hubs on my '95 Calkins trailer and I had to add Speedi-sleeves to them and ended up with the same issue. The Speedi-sleeve mostly covers the hole between the inner bearing and rear seal that allows the grease to exit inboard of the brake backing plate. I can barely see the hole at the edge of the sleeve, but I'm reluctant to enlarge the hole as I don't want to risk splitting the sleeve. I now just treat the hub like standard hub with a standard sealed cap and repack it yearly.

People should just use iit like a regular hub no matter what. I never use the LAZ-Lube method.

Even with the "lazy-lube" hubs, you should still do regular hub maintenence !!! "Says so in the instructions that no one ever reads and wonders why they have issues !!"
I do a complete relube every other year with my greasable hubs and hack up the axle and do a thorough inspection each year to start the season...

Exactly which is why I said what I did. Remove the hub/drum, check the brakes, check the bearings...hand pack the bearings.

I've always done regular annual maintenance also. I never was able to get the plastic cap with the zerk to keep the water out. I frankly wish I didn't have this spindle, but it's not worth replacing my 6K axle to get rid of it.

Other than the zerk and the hole that leads to the back of the spindle, it's no different than a normal axle. If you want to use a Beariing Buddy with it, just unscrew the zerk fitting.
