Has anyone else here seen this movie yet? It's about a (initially healthy) guy that eats nothing but McDonalds for a month...you can guess the consequences.

I saw it while over in Australia a couple of weeks ago...and haven't been able to eat any fast food since then.

I'm not surprised that McDonalds are getting pretty upset about it (the film - that is).

How bad do you think the obesity problem is?

Are McDonalds (and other fast food companies) really to blame?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3573620&thesection=news&thesubsection=world

http://www.supersizeme.com/

Hmmmm...

Eat one month of Italian food or mexican food, and you'll gain weight too.

This guy did this as an "experiment"...Dont you think he would have a vested interest in making sure he gained weight. WOuldnt have been much of a movie, if he only gained 5 pounds.

Sounds like a big publicity stunt to me.

Ken

There is no doubt that too many Americans are overweight.

As to who's at fault, I guess it depends on one's intelligence and/or their ideological perspective. With Western Civilization's ever increasing ethic that it is someone elses responsibility to take care of them and in the case of America, being dumbed down by the socialistic National Education Association, one would have to say that McDonalds et al, is responsible.

After all we apparently couldn't figure out that smoking was risky business and that in the end it would produce negative health effects. We needed a paternal government to step in on our behalf.

Funny how times change. My mother didn't need the help of the government to know that if you had Big Gulp everyday and ate fast food that you would suffer. She also, back in the 50's, didn't need a Surgeon General to tell her that smoking was bad for you.

Re: Super Size Me

Some, a very small percentage, are overweight because of medical reasons.
The rest are overweight because they don't care. Plain and simple.

They know that if they eat this and that, that they will get fat.
It's their own fault.

This all falls inline with the woman that sued because her coffee was hot.

Just another example of what this world is coming to.

Anything to make a buck.

Re: Super Size Me

I understand the obesity level in Aussie is not far behind that in the USA, and for the same reasons, just what SBN said.
We have an increase here in is child diabetes, adult too of course, but with children it is more disturbing.
My youngest is 10, and due to our circumstances at this end of life, he goes to a private school.
The school "Tuck Shop" is only open once a week, and only healthy type food is sold. The kids have health education by way of, say reading, they read something re healthy diets or the like. Same with other subjects. We are told that 1 in 3 kids (or some such figure) is obese, but at this school there seem to be no kids in that category. They also have phys'ed and compulsory sports.
The school ciriculum is no different to the State schools, but what i have just mentioned, along with a strict discipline code, is what I am happy to pay for.
When he was real small, the 3rd words he knew were "Macadommas" whenever we passed the golden arch. He attended Day Care from 6 weeks of age and obviously picked it up from the older kids in the same establishment.
Cheers
Phillip

ok.. I usually eat one meal a day (lunch) thats considered "fast food" (mickey d's, the bk lounge, arbys, wendys, various sub places) and have been for years... If they have a grilled chicken sandwich, thats usually what i'll get.. Maybe a hamburger or two a week, along with a small order of fries and the biggest diet coke they got.. Probably not good for me i know, but if the stuff is so bad and such a major contributor to obesity, why then does my 5'6" frame only weight 130-135 soaking wet?

The snapperbait diet... Eat less, move more.... Which reminds me, got some moving to do... catch ya'll later..

It has actually less to do with real health issues, than it does ,providing a revenue source for attournies (Lawyers, I'm talking about an as of yet, unexploited area of litigation, no particular case).
In case any of you haven't seen the latest list of films and "documentaries" being pumped-out of the left coast propaganda mills, this should prove interesting for you to investigate.
EX; "Fairenhieght9/11" by that POS, Mike Moore.

"The Day After Tommorrow", what a piece of werk! The guy that plays VP Cheney looks just like him, too.
There are many more, with an obvious residual goal of steering the sheep away from the flock on election day,2004.
Pitifull, and very poorly masked as "art".

Re: Super Size Me

I sure would like to make a movie about the following: people sitting on their duffs watching 8 to 12 hours of tv a day, playing video games all day, sitting at a bar doing 12oz curls, and many more lazy butt lifestyles that promote obesity.

Its all about the energy that the food gives us to be able to perform work or play. Then when you eat and sit, the energy is stored as fat.

I bet if a study was done, obesity would raise with the rate in which computers and video games sales increased.

I have worked for Mickey D's for over 5 years now. I admit that taking care equipment in 9 stores makes it easy to over eat. Which I do take advantage of the freebies from one store to the next. My weight has not incresed or decreased by 10 lbs in those years. I'm active with taking care of my property, boat, dog, and grandkids.

This is an example of someone making money off of others fortune and without regards to the thousands that work for the fast food industry of for the world. From the farmers of the grain used in the bread, the vegetables used in salads/sandwiches, and the beef/chicken that is raised for the meat. Then there are the slaughter house, processing plants, distribution plants, drivers, and the bakeries for the bread. There are more people employed for the support of the fast food resturants than the resturants themselves employ.

Obesity is in control of the hand that feeds the mouth! Nobody else is to blame. I have never heard of someone forcing someone to eat to get fat. It is in the holder of the fork!

That is my opinion and I'm sticking with it.....

Lawyers will find a way, with all that money to be won.

Gee, I didnt know if I cram my mouth with food and never get off my butt, that I will get fat.

Ken

The fast food places don't do anything different then they where in the 60's.

Its that more and more people are fat !@#$ lazy slobs that sit on their rear end all day and eat the stuff.

With tarrget McDonalds? I'd rather see someone take on Dunken Dounts, they make more money then mickey D's and I can't tell you how many car accidents we have a year at the local dunken's because of 45year old fat divorced mouthers need their coffee and don't care about anything else.

Re: Super Size Me

Yep Ryan T, Why would a mother spend an hour in the kitchen walking back and forth from the stove, sink, and fridge making a meal? You know something that is made from her own hands and stuff from a grocery store? Because it is easier to sit in the car, place her order, and drive off.

So now she didn't have to spend time walking thru the grocery store, and putting the stuff away at home. Now her children loose out because there isn't any dishes to wash, food to carry in from the car, and a table sitting to place.

Sorry to rant, but my two son in laws weigh over 700 lbs combined, my two step daughters that are about 5'6 both have the combine weight of 500lbs.
All of them have a very bad lifestyle of sitting on their duffs. That is why I had to get a large boat. Between my wife, myself, grandkids, and them, we figured close to 1700 lbs. That is why my boat never has a chance to plane out. :(

Yep, maybe fast food places are to blame for making it so easy to buy supper for the family without the work involved making it.

Yes I am very worried about all my kids health problems that are arising. But I know their weight problem is not from fast food service. It is from lack of exercise. Both son-in-laws cannot keep up with this 48year old 175lb dad. They do lose weight when summer is here and we are gathering wood for the winter. But during the winter months when we don't spend time outside, they stack on the pounds.

Yes sir, I guess you could say I have a super size family....

Re: Super Size Me

Ryan, I was that way till about 38 yrs. No doubt, some people put it on easier than others. You just have to be able to control your intake, otherwise you have a drastically shortened life with decreased quality . I have observed those that put on a lot of weight, and so far, all that gain weight have poor eating habits. At 38 I started gaining wt, and had to learn how not to eat more than my activity level would allow. They can help being too fat, but it is a difficult impulse and drive to control. Lunch time, think I'll go get some fast food critter.

If anyone is stupid enough to eat at McDonalds for every meal they eat, then they deserve to be obese!

It's not McDonalds fault that individuals cannot contain their daily intake of calories!

If anyone gets obese because they were eating at McDonalds for every meal, it's not McDonalds fault, it's the fat slob's fault for not caring about themselves!

Re: Super Size Me

I agree in principle KKC, but I also eat there(McD) a lot. I just count calories. Once I get to 2500 in a day, thats it for all but carrots, cauliflower, tomatos, fruit...the stuff you are supposed to be eating anyway. I bet that anyone that has a weight problem would be shocked at the number of calories they consume in a typical day.
