Hello Everyone,
I am work on replacing the seals on a 1981 Johnson 115hp. I was able to remove both end caps for the trim cylinders but for the life of me I can not remove the end cap for the tilt cylinder. I have a spanner wrench(not the oem one but a universal one). I have tried using heat and lubricants but it won't budge an inch. It has gotten to the point where I have worn down the sides on two of the four holes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next? Should I just breakdown and buy the oem one that goes in 3 of the holes? Oh and it's a freshwater motor.

heat is the usual remedy to loosen things up but...you could try freezing the outer surface of the cyl. wall with a can of keyboard spray held upside down .
DO NOT INHALE....

or heat up the cyl. perimeter with a hot air gun and freeze the cap
then try to twist and break the bond .

I finally got it off after applying a lot of heat. How would you recommend getting the piston head off of the tilt rod so I can replace the o rings?
