i have a 33 wellcraft coastal year is 2001 . it is for sale. the surveyor said the stringers are no good and need to be replaced. he said the boat has no value. can anybody give a ballpark price to replace the stringers? I understand that it needs to be hauled out but he gave a price of 30000.00. is there another solution to fix them. Can they be repaired and not replaced? thanks for your input.

Re: stringers repair/rebuild

welcome to iboats.... sorry to hear about the stringers.

No they can not be repaired..... they must be replaced. $30K for replacement tells me that they do not want to do the work.

It is a big job on such a big boat however it can be a DIY project for probably a third of that price to do it right. Major surgery will have to happen and maybe it can be done by leaving the cap on...maybe.

There are no shortcuts or band aids that anyone would advise you to do.

The only way to properly replace the stringers is to tear the boat clear down to the stringers. You could maybe sell it to someone that is willing to do that work, but be up front with them. If you do the work yourself, you more than likely won't get out of it what you put into it as far as your labor and materials. If you like the boat maybe try and fix it, if not sell it to somoene who would be able to fix it, as long as they know what is wrong with it. Good luck:confused:
