well 20 days no work on boat...disgusting
However needed to get into tidy shed up as Im sick of walking around ****, and dust
So while hull was outside, turned garage/shed upside down dusted/clean/fibreglass out, ...well what I could get to
went around and replaced broken globes, changed the fluorescent lights to LED tubes
Installed 40 ft of racking floor to ceiling bar the windows of course
manage to get the 5 engines around the outside of the garage under the shelving and not sitting in middle of floor taking up space
spent a good week in there
documented the parts which had as some of them had forgotten about
got to get a car in there for restore
at least can move around now and no obstacle or crawling over other stuff.
still a little more work to finish

have a few Chev BB heads floating around and thought I would clean them up
this set is brand new never been use mercury 502 Gen VI rectangular ports #088 castings
used 30 litre plastic container, and 24 litre of regular cooking vinegar (5% acid), purchased for A$0.60/litre, used 24 litres
Been fully submerged for 30 hours, will pull them tomorrow, and then clean up the other head as well
you can see the oxide, rust bubbling away head is coming up spotless, and no elbow grease needed
have video, however need to reduce MB to load
tomorrow will hit them with hose to clean off dry, and then oil the head , putting away in 2 heavy wall plastic bags and on the shelf, get to them latter

make sure to neutralize the vinegar.

the #088 heads are really nothing special. they are the generic GM rectangular port heads. I would do a bowl job and port the intakes a bit as well as gasket match the exhaust.

Interesting how the heads can come up left them for another 24 hours so in total 50 hrs soaking
Came up okay
Hosed the heads down with water blew them off with air gun, oiled them but them in double Heavy duty plastic Bags as no tine to do anything with them at present
I’m really suprised the amount of crud that came off heads
Scrapped and binned this stuff top off tank with another half litre and put the other head in tank

It’s been a while since last posting
Crazy busy at work although enjoying not travelling overseas for now
A few months ago when at a classic boat racing meet I noticed quite a few of boats had a see-through access panel on rear deck to get access to inside transom
Since filling in the rear deck / transom area thought this is what was needed to get to the far reaching area of transom which would make it easier for maintenance for all concerned
Therefore rebated to a depth of 6mm x 600x150mm recess which is enough area to get the hydraulic pumps through
Will use Perspex 4-5mm thick as cover smoky grey colour
Use aluminium or light gauge stainless as border on top to support over Perspex

Managed to final sort out fittings need to adapt -3 trim pump hose coming from trim tab pump which is a 3/8”-24 inverted flare to the -3 jic transom connection
Looked at adapters and was going to take 2-3 fittings on each of the 4 hoses
Managed to find reasonable priced flare but and double inverted flare 1” long body and get them tigged welded less hassle with connections all good
Trim pump hydraulics lines now finished

moving on

they make single inverted flare to JIC/AN fittings. look up goodridge. they are used in racing all the time. come from england, stocked anywhere where they sell go-fact brake parts including your local cycle shop.

here in the US, I order from Pegasus Racing https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/advcat.asp?CategoryID=BRAKEADAPT

here is the list of the two distributors in your neck of the woods https://goodridge.com/distributors/distributor_country/australia/

I would have made new hoses at your local race shop or hydraulic shop
