That sounds like areasonable plan.
.. A "daggerboard" slides vertically up and down ...A swing keel mechanical device is used to raise the keel (think like 30'+ boat with a 500lb swing keel). A centerboard is more of a plate type of affair that can usually be raised by hand....

Thanks for the info, I crew on several different boats. (Soverel 30; J 24; Melges 24; and my own laser, fireball, and Prindle 16.

I was unaware of the difference between a daggerboard and a centerboard.

In light of my new knowledge, thanks to Ned L, I would like to re-write my previous post.

For now, I am going to grind down and reinforce the centerboard trunk.
I am then going to put some non slip mats down on the floor and let my dad sail for a while.
If he wants me to reinforce the floor later, I will.
(I will hold off on painting the floor until he makes a decision to reinforce or just paint it)
