Hello all,
I started up my outboard for the first time in a while yesterday with no problems at all. Stopping it became an issue when I pressed the stop switch and nothing happened. I took apart the stop switch assembly at the handle and sprayed some WD-40, but still no success.

My questions: Are these problems usually caused by corrosion interfering with electrical contact? How difficult is this to fix myself? Should I consider taking apart the kill circuit both at the handle and closer to the coil? Lastly, any particular parts that typically corrode earlier and deserve my special attention? Any help is greatly appreciated!
-Woody

My best bet would be the switch wires are broken in the handle. To check, you need to disconnect both leads back at the motor, and see if they ground or make a circuit, when the switch is pushed. This is done with an ohm meter. If they don't connect, you need a switch,or wire repair. If they do connect,it maybe the power pack.

DHP
