Stiff Steering

I am kind of new at owning a boat with steering and cables and such. Up till now I mostly have owned tiller motors. What is the best way to grease or lubricate the controls and cables. They seem a little rough to me, not smooth like I would expect them to be. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Single cable steering usually does not get lubed since it is sealed. There are companies that sell a piece to lubricate it. http://www.iboats.com/Seachoice-Ste...395794882--**********.583404508--view_id.2952

If it is an old fashioned wire cable and pully just use some light oil on the pully's

Steering and control cables are not lubeable. Any grease in the housing will make the cable even stiffer. Disconnect from tiller draglink and see if your engine is free if so you need to replace the cable.

Thanks guys, it is a newer type cable, not the old pulley type. I will check the engine.
