It won't be a bad ground.

bruce with all due respect when multiple things start to play up on dc the ground needs to be checked. lets say for fun that theres a short in the bilge pump then the + will go to the pump as it can not go to the negative it will make the neg bar a + that will then try to find a path home and it can go from the - bar (which is now positive) to the gauges and and find a way back to negative by the one piece of equipment that isnt on the negative bar which is the stern light as this has a ground to the battery. if this was a trailer and brake light came on one side when the indicator on the other side flashed then everyone would scream ground so i have no idea whats wrong with testing the ground. the op says everything worked so unless he sleep walks and rewires his boat with out remembering it then something has either jammed, shorted or burnt out

Ok did that. No lights at any of the three positions. Think I need a new switch then? What would have made it weld all of a sudden?

no lights equals a back feed so how about for giggles run a jumper to the battery and the ground bar or get a volt meter :facepalm:

Ok im out here in the garage right now and ill run the jumper. If I run the jumper and thats the problem the lights should work correctly right and the fuses stop blowing? I know I need to get a volt meter I only have a wire tester. I will get one and hopefully you will have the patience to walk me through

ur bad news if im right a fuse might go pop but that will be a good thing....kinda but the light should work

nothing happen as in stern light still stayed on permanently at all three switch positions.

you reconnected the top right yellow wire again? any chance you can trace that and see what its connected to picture would help of where its landed

ok re-read all the posts its possible that the light started playing up after you replaced a fuse that was either missing or had blown before you owned the boat which has created a backfeed. a simple test would be to remove the brown jumper from the right side middle terminal (make sure it doesnt touch anything) then take the yellow top right hand wire and move to the middle terminal then put the red jumper on the top right terminal. then the stern light should work of the switch and indicate that there is a backfeed from the gauges

Ok traced it, went straight to the stern light base. The bottom feed goes towards the bow.

lol so the single wire is the stern light.....well thats a shock ok where does the one thats crimped on to the jumper bottom right go to then?

do you have a switch on the bow that says anchor light by any chance?

The one with the jumper goes to the bow to the lights switch up there. The single one the the left of it on the bottom row also goes to the bow.

lol well the reason the light stays on is you turned it on from the bow.......your problem is the light will not come on from the drivers switch

but if i turn it off at the bow it will not come back on from the drivers console. that shouldnt be should it?

ok leave the switch at the bow in the off position so the light is off then remove the top right single wire and touch the brown jumper in the middle of the switch with it and see if the anchor light comes on when the wires touch

wait....the brown jumper in the middle section of the switch? not the jumper coming from the bottom left?

the brown wire in the middle of the switch should be live and if you touch the yellow top right to it (the one that you said is the stern light) then the light should come on
