I bought this boat last year and it ran perfect and worked well other than occasional over heating. Just took it out today for the first time this year and it won't steer at all. I am not a boat person so I don't even know where to begin to look. I assume it is a cable that is stuck somewhere. I see behind the steering wheel a large blue cable going to the back of the boat. I have a Mercruiser 165 and I believe a pre-alpha Mercruiser outdrive. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Thanks.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... What'd ya do about the Overheating,..??

The Other end of that blue cable is attached to an aluminum tube at the transom...
Take it apart There...
It's corroded inside...

I haven't really done anything about the overheating. It is sporatic, sometimes happening at low rpm and sometime at high. A lot of times it doesn't overheat so I am stymied. I bought a replacement heat exchanger but haven't installed it yet. I replaced the water pump in the outdrive also but it sometimes overheated after that. Thanks for the info on the steering. I will try to tackle that tomorrow.

I followed your direction on the steering and got it working fine now. Greased everything up real good. Can you tell me about the routing of the hoses into and out of the heat exchanger? Someone told me that one hose should come from the outdrive to the heat exchanger and the other going out of the heat exchanger should run through the entire exhaust manifold. The way mine is the hose runs from the heat exchanger to the riser at the back of the manifold but not through the manifold itself. There is a plug in the front of the manifold. Perhaps this is my overheating problem? Thanks for any help.
