steering frozen

i've got a 73 proline with a 165 mercruiser. sterring is stuck. checked the cable at the wheel and its free. checked the outdrive and its free. isolated the problem at the cable at the transom. the shaft coming out of the aluminum tube at the transom is stuck. used penetrating oil and A BIG HAMMER and still stuck. any help would be appreciated. trying to get back in the water after being yard bound for two years. thanks

Thats much `bout what you can do...... try warming it up with a hair dryer it might pop loose otherwise... a new one.

Had a similar problem on a Searay. Nothing worked until I took a fine flamed blowtorch to the tube. Just heat it up gently and move the wheel at the same time and it should become free. Just be very careful with the torch so that you don't catch anything alight with it!!
