Hey my steering is really hard to steer. So im gonna replace the rack and pinion cable. Do i have to pull the motor to change it? If i do does the motor have a bracket or something built in to pull it

The rod through the tilt tube does not bend. Usually you have to swing the engine to get the cable out. You usually don't have to disconnect anything, just suspend the engine by the lifting eye so you can rotate it and pull the cable out.

A standard mercury lifting eye and any form of skyhook will do.

hope it helps

Several on eBay. I use a flywheel pulling tool with an eye bolt for a lifting eye. Just be sure it's fine thread if you get the combo. Course doesn't cut the mustard if the flywheel you're trying to pull is real tight.

BTW, a common failure mode on the steering cables is excess grease. Yep, grease will durn near lock em up. The cables are lubed for life with a light machine oil. I made a re-lube tool and I use 5W30 synthetic for lube.

Put just enough grease on the steering rod to make it slippery. If there's a grease zerk on the end nut, take it off and pitch it. The one in the center of the tilt tube lubes the tilt bushings. No grease from that zerk gets into the steering.
