Long story short, I recently purchased a 1988 50 hp Force and had to install a new stator and trigger. I got a used OEM trigger and CDI stator. The CDI stator was quite different from the stock one. Had more coils and two extra wires. I was able to make it work my plugging in wires until I got spark. Despite myself lacking in any electrical expertise, the motor starts right away and seems to be running good. Being that the stator was very different from the OEM, my question is, does the stator have to be installed in any specific orientation? If it were a matching stator I would have just put it in the exact position as the old one, as I did with the trigger. The motor runs good now but am I losing performance if it's supposed to be a certain orientation? Or should I just leave it?
