Starter Swap

Does anyone know if a starter from a 3.0LX Mercruiser will fit a 4.3 LX? Bought off Ebay ad said it would fit, now I'm not so sure.

Pull your old one and check the bolt pattern. They are either straight or diagonal. Then just make sure your Bendix has the right number of teeth.

But you DO NEED to use NEW bolts every time or you will have loose starter problems in the future.

Ayuh,... like cr2k says, just Match the Bolt Pattern of what you have Now,+ you can't go wrong...

if you purchase of ebay pay close attention to nose cone on starter match yours exactly to it some are slightly different and you may have to cut small piece off it so that flywheel weights don't hit it and cause a rod knock type of noise when running-from experience

thanks fellas. Another thing I notice there is only 1 small electrical connection on the solenoid, my old starter has 2. Any thoughts on that?
